Game 122 Thread: August 15 vs. Brewers, 7.40p

Chad Billingsley (11-9, 3.07) vs. Manny Parra (9-5, 4.02).

Done? Good. Now you have only a few hours left to savor the Dodgers' four-game sweep of the Phillies, as the 18-games-over-.500 Brewers come in to town. Fortunately, the Dodgers dodge the one-two pitching combination of CC Sabathia and Ben Sheets, but tonight's left-handed starter Parra (the Brewers have A Manny of Their Own) has caused Joe Torre to start Juan Pierre over Andre Ethier. I have a feeling Ethier will see an at-bat or two before the game's over, though.

Strangely enough, this is Billingsley's first career start against the Brewers. Pitching at Dodger Stadium—even if it's no longer technically a pitcher's park—should allow Chadley to twirl an effective game against the Brewers. As usual, it'll be up to the bats to make a difference.

This line up makes my head hurt. I am a fan of experimentation and all but Loney in the 8 hole? Nomar in the 5 hole....PIERRE LEADING OFF. I understand Pierre is quick son of a gun and all but man he sucks...how bout him in the 8 hole? Preaching to the converted?

Orel said...

Yeah, pretty much. But don't let that stop you from venting!

Uggg...Pennant races remind me of the degeneracy of sports betting. I am currently rooting for a guy named Wandy who plays for a team in Houston and it is not fun. Oh well. Stros suck.

Orel said...

2-0 Brewers? Wha' happa' ta' Cha'?

Orel said...

Ha, Andrew. Pennant races make for strange bedfellows.

Orel said...

Pierre singles!

Kent singles!

Manny singles!

2-1 Brewers, two on, one out!

Orel said...

Nomar K's, Russell K's. 2-1 Brewers after one.

Orel said...

3-1 Brewers

Orel said...

Blake homers with Russell aboard! 3-3 tie!

Erin said...

Orel, I can't stand to see you all alone here. Just got home in time to read that Blake tied the game.

OK...fun little story related to the blog name, since I just found you guys and all...
OK, so I am at a get together when I was back in LA for the holidays a few years back and we are drinking and what not. I hear a conversation in the background about Steve Garvey and I bring up the illegitimate children. All of the sudden some guy I was sort of friends with gives me this look like I just kicked his dog...later he tells me that his gf who happened to be behind me was one of those illegitimate children....sigh, i cant win.

Go Dodgers!

Orel, Erin, it's a threesome. But I'm on blackberry.

Pierre leadsoff the fifth and grounds weeeeakly to short. Yay.

Orel said...

Kemp doubles! Love the Bison!

Orel said...

Kent singles and the Bison lumbers home—even after a late start off second! 4-3 Dodgers!

Orel said...

Thanks for the company, guys!

Andrew, that's a great story. You never know who you're going to run into in L.A.

Steve Sax said...

And Kemp, who should be batting leadoff, scored after a double and a Kent RBI.

Bench Pierre!!!

Erin said...

Even with the early struggles, Chad is still at 75 pitches through give. He can give us a couple more innings.

Erin said...

If Billingsley gets through this inning (after Fielder, who just singled), he'll be batting fourth in the next inning. We'll see if he'll be allowed to bat for himself.

Unknown said...

Nomars arm looks pretty solid...range is limited but he isnt making me miss Angel Berroa-Maza at all.

Orel said...

The Dodgers have been coming from behind recently. It's a pleasant surprise.

Erin said...

That's what she said!

Orel said...

Just imagine if we got Furcal back for September....

Steve Sax said...

4-3 Blue!

Wait a second, Andrew--what's this about illegitimate kids of our father?

Orel said...

Get your mind out of the gutter, Erin. We run a classy operation here.

Erin said...

My apologies. Next time I'll put it in pun form.

Erin said...

Chad will bat for himself. I'm happy about that, though I guess Ethier could have pinch-hit. But I want Billingsley to continue pitching, so I don't mind this move.

Erin said...

Damn, that was like watching a show at Sea World.

Orel said...

Who would have thought Fielder could fly like that?

Orel said...

C'mon guys, insurance.

Steve Sax said...

Well, they bat Chad, and it fares poorly. "Runaway dump truck" fielder catches the bunt popup, acc. To Rick Monday.

Orel said...

Erin, you are on fire tonight. Must be your newly engaged status.

Erin said...

Thank you, Orel. I think it has had a positive effect on me.

Bases loaded for the Bison.

Steve Sax said...

Pierre draws a walk to load 'em and end Parra's night. Kemp up with 2 out

Orel said...

Awww, Matty....

Orel said...

Wow, Kent didn't even need his walker to make that play.

Erin said...

I'm certainly liking this new "no lead is safe" Dodger team.

Orel said...

Chad @ 100 pitches

Orel said...

Except it works both ways, Erin.

Erin said...

Well it did in San Francisco last weekend, that's for sure.

But I'd like to think those days are behind us.

Orel said...

Good job, Chad!

Orel said...

We're about to find out, Erin.

Erin said...

Did PrimeTicket just cut to commercial right as we came to the plate? Or is it just my feed somehow?

Erin said...

Man, there are some issues with the feed. Now they're playing the Wisconsin feed with Scully's voice very, very low.

Orel said...

Fox Sports West is having technical difficulties. I am currently watching the FSN Wisconsin feed with Vin on the radio feed. The audio has been changing every 30 seconds. I'm imagining some dude sitting in a back room somewhere frantically patching cables left and right.

Erin said...

I keep thinking I'm seeing Jane Seymour behind the plate (just to the right of the advertisements, in the front row), so I Googled "Jane Seymour, Dodgers." Sure enough, I found an article from 2007 where she talks about her finances, and they ask her biggest spending expense. The answer? "Dodgers season tickets."

So Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman is a Dodger fan.

Orel said...

Ozuna makes a play Kent may not have been able to...good defensive substitution. As long as he doesn't have to bat.

Orel said...

I keep seeing Don Johnson behind home plate.

Erin said...

Yeah, I noticed Don Johnson the other night.

Erin said...

Pull Troncoso. Pull him now.

Orel said...

Okay, Tron-Tron. Get it together here.

Never mind. Beimel Time.

Erin said...

Beimel does his job. Broxton's coming in for the four-out save.

Orel said...

Well, here's the test. Broxton in for the four-out save with a one-run lead.

Orel said...

"Johnny B. Goode." Sweet.

Unknown said...

Do you suppose Frank Jobe is watching with anticipation as to whether Kuo is available for the ninth?

Erin said...

Nicely done, Johnny.

Orel said...

"Lady, he's putting my kids through college."

Unknown said...

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Orel said...

Ah, child actors. Is there anything they can't do?

Orel said...

Besides act?

Unknown said...

Has Colletti checked on the availability of the clean up hitter for the US softball team, I think she could slug .500+ at the ML level.

Orel said...

INSURANCE!

Orel said...

FSN Prime, what is your problem? You drink after the game!

Orel said...

We could use Jennie Finch.

Unknown said...

Good to see Kapler is off steroids and can now reach his arms above his head.

Orel said...

Vin shouldn't acknowledge the technical problems. They're not his fault.

Orel said...

"Well we're back to normal—again." You can hear the annoyance in his voice.

Orel said...

Not Cecil, Vin! And if it were, it would be pronounced "Sessil."

Orel said...

Ouch, Andrew.

Orel said...

"Good news: Your lowest fare dropped from $786.00 to $785.98!" Thanks, Hotwire!

Orel said...

How bad do you have to be to go full count with Broxton at the plate?

And he walks him!

Unknown said...

Broxton is now 8 walks behind Juan Pierre for the year!

Orel said...

Ladies and gentlemen, FSN Prime Ticket.

Orel said...

I hate you, Craig Counsell.

Orel said...

And we're back in sync. Let's see if you can keep it up for the LAST TWO OUTS, FSN Prime Ticket.

Orel said...

Another come-from-behind win for the Dodgers! Winning streak is five! Four games above .500! Still tied for first place!

Erin said...

Whoo!!
