Off-Day Puzzle #2: Solution

I've tried to make up for any angst that yesterday's puzzle may have caused by adding some bling to the solution explanation. So here it is- the solution methodology divulged and the magical, hopeful message revealed (sorry if YouTube resolution is a little fuzzy):

Platinum star goes to puzzle-master Quadsevens, who, to my knowledge, is the only one to figure it out - though getting there seemed to be something of a group effort. He nailed it after the 4th (and somewhat redundant) hint.

Hope you enjoyed. Until the Dodgers' next off-day June 16, keep those pencils - and neurons - sharpened!

This was a very good off day game EK. Kept me busy all day. My first thought was to translate the names into morse code. Black names being dots, red names being dashes. I even tried the reverse before giving up on that idea. Then I started looking at the first year each player played for the Dodgers and tried connecting the dots that way. I ended up with a big mess. I had a feeling HRs would be a part after I re-read the clue about power rankings. Then Orel's link helped me find the HR totals pretty quickly. I actually started from the highest HR total and went backwards. Each red name was the start of a new letter for me. Loads of fun either way!

That was terrific! I especially loved the music.

I had all the home run totals down, and I knew it had something to do with that (that was obvious), but I never would have guessed to lift the pencil and start again every time you got to a red name.

Thanks all for your participation. Rob, I chose the song as to me it embraced the magical and hopeful mood of the message. And as a bonus the singer is Furcal's countryman!

That movie was more entertaining than Speed Racer!

Oh great. Youtube is blocked here at work so I don't find out what the hell is going on until I get home tonight. Screw you guys, I'm going back to dodgerthoughts.

Brilliant. Nice job, EK! Sorry I picked the wrong day(s) to stop sniffing glue.

And for cigarcow's sake, I really liked the pictures of the naked women at the end of the movie.

Me too! Although a NSFW warning would have been nice.

Eric, you have outdone yourself with this puzzle!

by the way, Juan Luis Guerra is a genius, a poet, an all-around great musician!
