Game 74 Thread: June 21 vs. Indians, 1p

Chan Ho Park (2-2, 2.95) vs. C.C. Sabathia (5-8, 4.26).

COMMENTS: Today we see CHP versus C.C., you see. (Say that five times fast.) This is Sabathia's first career start against the Dodgers, as he's been busy compiling a lifetime 105-71 record against mostly AL opponents. This is Park's second start of the season, as he's been providing capable long relief for the Dodgers. And if Cliff Lee can make the Dodger bats disappear, as he did last night, then Sabathia is likely to do the same today. Hopefully Joe Torre will start Russell Martin; the Dodgers without Furcal are punchless enough; the Dodgers without Furcal and Martin have less sock than an armless boxer.

I can't believe this. Long home run by C.C. Sabathia.

I don't have a good feeling about this.

Indians 1-Dodgers 0

Steve Sax said...

Hey guys, I am stuck in a function for (he next 2 hrs. Please keep me up to date on the game!

Go Dodgers!

Steve Sax said...

Shoot, man on second with one out. And the runner can't even spell his name right.

karina said...

I'll do my best, i'm multitasking over here.

Steve Sax said...

Park gets out of the jam! Way to go.

karina said...

After a couple of K's. Kent singled down the left fielder.

Here comes my son...

karina said...

Martin singled! 2 outs and Young is at the plate.

karina said...

Sabathia was pitching a no-hitter 'till this inning.

karina said...

Young struck out.

Steve Sax said...

Mlb.com gameday shows a pretty bad pitch on which Young K'd.

Orel said...

It's hard to believe we're only down one run.

karina said...

It was indeed a very bad pitch.

Orel said...

Love the new avatar, Karina!

karina said...

Park has been able to get out safely from the jams.

karina said...

Fashionista King James singled!

karina said...

My cool friend found the image of my avatar for me. It's a nice replacement to the gnome.

karina said...

Speaking of Loney, this morning, when i did a quick research on LaRoche facial hair, i remembered what Orel said about facial hair being a big thing on the Dodgers clubhouse so i made another research and found a gem.

karina said...

I'm not the only one praising King James grooming.

Orel said...

Do tell!

Your friends must be super-cool.

karina said...

Quick bet: what would Sweeney do?

a strike out or a ground out?

karina said...

Sweeney and his daily K, he must have dropped 20 points on his average.

Orel said...

Ah, the Ladies.... I feel dirty every time I read that site.

karina said...

I hadn't read that site ever. I emailed the link to my girls, let's see if someone starts having some interest for soccer-baseball, due to some attractive athlete.

karina said...

Did you see Schmidt throwing a ball with an uniform on?

Orel said...

Jim Edmonds hit two home runs in the 9th inning for the Cubs today. Padres fans must be furious.

Orel said...

Hey, whatever it takes to make fans!

I saw Schmidt throwing. It means nothing to me.

karina said...

why do you feel dirty reading Ladies...?

karina said...

I enjoy babes loves baseball.

Orel said...

BISON BOMB! (solo, of course)

karina said...

Bison HR! let's go blue!

karina said...

a first pitch HR!

Orel said...

The Ladies treat athletes like pieces of meat! Not that I mind—turnabout is fair play.

Orel said...

Do you think we are going to win this game?

karina said...

It is fair play. I found them hilarious and unique, you don't get athletes analyzed like that. They're almost prudish if you compare what the Ladies... say with any Maxim or GQ picture.

karina said...

Kemp made a great catch!

karina said...

I firmly believe they're gonna win this game.

Orel said...

There's that famous Karina optimism!

Orel said...

That's embarrassing for Delwyn Young, swinging at a pitch that hit his foot.

Orel said...

Tommy shouldn't be sitting in the sun like that!

Orel said...

Sabathia at 110 pitches.

karina said...

Ditto, Orel.

Steve Sax said...

Still tied up in the function...but I just found an unoccupied batting cage and snaked a Big Ten-logod baseball! Score!

Karina, we need a picture of you in the avatar. After all, we all have OUR pictures...

karina said...

this is Sabathia's last inning and i know they can hit to the Indians bullpen.

karina said...

Yes, Sax. I'm aware of that.

Erin said...

Hello everyone. Just got in from taking a friend to the airport, and now I'm a little depressed. Hopefully the Dodgers can win and make me feel a little better. The Red Sox are definitely not doing their part.

Orel and Karina, thanks for your comments on my blog.

Orel said...

Sabathia just owned Ethier there.

karina said...

I need some advice: i'm worried about my meeting with the people from school. I guess i'm worried about the girls. The ones that are organizaing this thing were very mean to me back then and i don't know what to wear (something it doesn't really happen very often). What do you say: a) sort of hot or b)stylish?

karina said...

I just wanted to express i fully support your views, Erin and i 100% agree with you.

karina said...

Great catch by King James! They're gonna win this game!

Orel said...

Hi Erin! Let's see if we can cheer you up here.

Orel said...

Wow, the Fashion Police is asking our advice? Maybe take some pictures and we'll vote!

Steve Sax said...

Beimel had a sweet eighth. Let's see if the Dodgers can muster any late heroics.

Erin, our thoughts are with you and your girlfriend. Hope everything is ok.

This function is eternal. But I stepped out with my son and we found a batting cage, so we snaked a Big Ten-logo baseball...

karina said...

I'm feeling like a pretty insecure 16 yr old.

Steve Sax said...

Karina, I assumed you were both (a) and (b) without even trying. Screw what they think, wear what you want!

Orel said...

Or, you can feel like a pretty, secure 16-year old.

Erin said...

The update is that my girlfriend's grandmother has been sick for a while, and it looks like she'll probably go any minute now. It's my girlfriend's last living grandparent, albeit one that she wasn't that close to, so it's sad. She actually can't make it to Pittsburgh this weekend, though, so that's not who I was taking to the airport. Just a friend who had been working here in Chicago on the movie, and who we came to really like. So I'm sad she's gone.

But thank you for your thoughts, Sax.

Erin said...

I'm probably the last person you want to ask for advice like this, Karina.

Orel said...

What Sax said!

Orel said...

Being on location is kind of like being at summer camp. It's always nice to make new friends.

Erin said...

Exactly, Orel.

Orel said...

Martin showing remarkable patience in that AB.

karina said...

The friends you make when on location are very special. You sort of make a very tight bond. I know how you feel.

karina said...

Thanks Orel and Sax for the support. My friends won't go (they were worse with them) so i'll go by myself and then they'll buy a couple of vodkatinis.

karina said...

I'm sorry about your girlfriend's grandmother.

Steve Sax said...

I never had many friends. I should have gone on location more often.

Please tell me Delwyn delivered.

Orel said...

Kemp? Wha?!

Eric Karros said...

Hi Erin, Karina, Orel, Sax (EKOS). Just checking in. I see we are in a double-binary game. My guess is it will go to 11 innings.

Orel said...

C'mon Broxton, don't fall apart.

Orel said...

Epale EK!

karina said...

I think the sun blocked Kemp's sight. You tell me if that's possible.

Eric Karros said...

Eps, Orel. I'm microwaving some food, I'll be back -

karina said...

Hola Eric!

Eric Karros said...

Karina, where are you meeting your friends?

karina said...

We need a double play.

karina said...

at the 4D, i guess it'll be outside, in a nice patio they have.

Eric Karros said...

Yes - one double play, please...

karina said...

I won't meet my friends there. I'll go there, see what my former classmates have planned for our 10th anniversary high school reunion. Then, my friends will reward me with vodkatinis.

Eric Karros said...

Ah yes, you mentioned that. I loved 4D but never understood the name.

Orel said...

Inning-ending DP! Good work, boys!

karina said...

are you an ice cream addict?

Erin said...

My ten-year reunion is in August. I will not be attending.

Eric Karros said...

My DP request has been granted!

I echo KOS' well-wishing sentiments, Erin.

I am speaking in abbv. today.

Eric Karros said...

I developed a destructive ice cream dependency a few years ago when I moved to the NY area, but I have since kicked it.

karina said...

Congratulations, Eric!

Eric Karros said...

I attended my 5-year HS reunion but nothing since. I did however recently see part of the Real World reunion on MTV a few weeks ago, not sure if that counts.

Orel said...

I hate reunions. Actually, I can't really say that because I've never been to one. Let's just say I hate the idea of reunions. Right, Sax?

Erin said...

If the reunion were in July, I'd consider it because I could go on my way back to Los Angeles. But I'm driving back across the country, spending some time in Texas, and then heading home. I just won't feel like getting back up and heading to Florida for the reunion.

karina said...

LaRoche singled...

Eric Karros said...

Let's go, ALaR.

Steve Sax said...

Dammit, how many excruciatingly late games are we gonna lose?

Eric Karros said...

Thanks, Karina.

I see my Gameday is running a bit late.

Eric Karros said...

Not this one, Sax, cuz Berroa is up!

karina said...

Oh, i see, interesting answers. There are people who i'd like to see again, but i could do without seeing others.

Orel said...

Extras again!

Eric Karros said...

My attitude on Reunions is if it's conveniently nearby and I have nothing else to do, I'd go. But neither of those two things have coincided so I haven't been to one except that one time.

Eric Karros said...

Jeopardy is on TV

Eric Karros said...

Don't listed to Orel, he really loves High School Reunions. He organizes ours every year and is currently trying to get the committee to approve semi-annual reunions.

karina said...

I think that's our problem: we don't really have those excuses, but Hector and Jaime, who are living in Europe.

karina said...

So i guess Eric and Orel went to school together.

karina said...

I changed the pic for Sax. Only for today, then i'm getting back to my ultra cool Fashion Police badge.

Eric Karros said...

4 of the 7 Sons went to high school together.

karina said...

awwwwwwww, that's so sweet!.

Eric Karros said...

Karina - who is taking your pic from that angle? The gnome?

Eric Karros said...

Sizemore hits into a DP!

karina said...

that's a baseball related pic. It's on the windy Luis Aparicio and it was taken by some graphic reporter who's under me.

karina said...

Hey, maybe the Dodgers will give an excuse to miss this meeting!

Steve Sax said...

Can't depend on Bison for two HRs. On to the 11th.

Eric Karros said...

Something I just learned from Jeopardy: Zimbabwe means 'enclosed by stone'

karina said...

Seeing Proctor gives me chills on the spine.

karina said...

Instinct was right. Did you notice Martin didn't even put himself in the position to block the plate?

karina said...

I just saw that Blake to the left field and i thought about the Bad News Bears. Who's with me?

karina said...

Rancho Ardiendo. One out.

Erin said...

Bad News Bears, indeed.

Proctor has made it much easier for me to justify taking a quick nap, and so that's what I'm off to do. See you tomorrow (maybe).

karina said...

Have a nice evening, Erin.

Orel said...

Why Torre would go to Proctor AGAIN is a mystery. But we can't pin this on all on the bullpen—Dodger bats, or lack thereof, are also to blame.

Gotta run. Better luck tomorrow!

Orel said...

Nice pic, Karin!

karina said...

Sometimes mom is all you need. She came in, saw i've covered the bed with clothes and then she says a couple of things and grabs something i had discarded, puts it next to something i was trying on and it's all solved.

karina said...

Thanks, Orel!. I don't what happened in that moment, but i'm sure i was looking at the ball down third base or left field.

karina said...

Mom: is ****** going?
Me: he's working abroad...
Mom: is he going to the reunion on July?
Me: he said over the facebook group he would.
Mom: for that reunion honey, you have to look as beautiful as you possibly can, so he realizes what he missed.

****** was my school crush. He was around me the entire time but he never did anything and i was too shy and insecure to encourage him.

Love my mami!

karina said...

Martin has 3 singles in the game today. If the team sucks, he won't.

karina said...

Loney RBI double!, guys, have you given up this game?

Steve Sax said...

I am honestly depressed about the Dodgers, but reading the banter from everyone makes me feel better.

I like reunions, and the truth is that Orel and I were roommates once and even though I was planning a high school reunion, Orel politely refused to go. It's not his thing.

karina said...

So you are the only one who goes. Would you give mesome advice when your friends abandon you? (i gotta say they have more reasons to miss it than actually going, it was way harder for them).

This is a meeting so we decide what we're gonna do.

Steve Sax said...

You know, I didn't see it so much as "abandoning" me. I wanted to run the reunion, Orel didn't want to attend, and that was cool by me. He was totally respectful of the difference in perspective.

And he's a good friend anyway, so whether he attends the reunion or not is irrelevant to me.

karina said...

Same here. They're all my very good friends, i've been friends with them since 5th grade and we've been together through thick and thin. I know why they don't want to go, specially considering what these people were with them, but they also know it won't be easy for me. They know i'm pretty anxious and need the support.

That's what they agreed (without consulting me): that i go alone, that i'm entitled to take decisions for them, i'll get back home and they'll pick me up and they'll buy me vodkatinis (and some chocolate, if it goes bad). I'll gossip with them and that'll be it.

We have a month to prepare ourselves for the big thing.

Off!

as always, have a nice evening!

Orel said...

Your loss, ******!
