Game 76 Thread: June 24 vs. White Sox, 7p

Derek Lowe (5-6, 3.90) vs. Mark Buehrle (4-6, 4.28).

COMMENTS: The White Sox have just come off a disappointing sweep at the hands of their cross-town rivals, who boast the best record in baseball and have all the press in Chi-town. However, we face a starter who Buehrle lost a no-hit bid in the sixth during his last outing, and everyone knows the Dodgers are a sad 2-7 in interleague play in 2008. Can we pull off an second victory in a row off an AL team (something we haven't done all year), and maybe gain a game back against the fumbling Snakes?

On our end, we are again pulling out the stops by sending SoSG Orel to the park to cheer on the blue. SoSG AC worked his magic in Sunday's day game, but he now suffers from third-degree burns from the 110-degree temperatures at the Stadium (free cups of water from Frankie McCourt notwithstanding). Orel needs to do his part tonight and make sure the hot streak continues even if the LA heatwave has abated.

Erin, wherever you are, you must happy, the Rex Sox managed to overcome a 4-run deficit at the 8th inning.

Top of the 2nd

White Sox 2-Dodgers 0

with two outs, runner at first, Martin made a bad throw to 2nd, therefore the runner stole the base, anyway.

King James starts the inning with a single...

LaRoche GIDP.

karina said...

Top of the 4th.

Runners at 1st and 3rd, no outs.

Ramirez's at the plate.

My son Martin made an impressive block at the plate!

Anyway, there's still runners at the corners, but one out.

Lowe got out of the jam! Dodgers 0-White Sox 2

Lowe looking very good but they can't hit.

Delwin Young with the HR! Dodgers 1-White Sox 2

Torre: play this kid more often, please!

karina said...

Gotta love seeing Loney, Martin and Young sitting together on the bench, smiling.

karina said...

Kemp with the single to the left. No outs.

karina said...

Edit: one out because Pierre grounded out.

Ramirez made a great catch, robbing Kent a single, then Kemp was out at first, when he tried to return to the base.

Top of the 7nd, LaRoche with the infield single, he was helped by a quirky throw.

Karina, I was indeed happy to see (or read about) Boston's comeback. Particularly because it was against the Diamondbacks.

I wish I could stay so you wouldn't be alone, but I'll be going to bed shortly. Keep up the good work!

Dewayne with the triple, with a little help of questionable defense by Young. White Sox 5-Dodgers 1

Karina, I am sorry to be checking in so late! We owe you for keeping the GT alive!

karina said...

Orel, one question, the boos were aimed to the Chicago defense or the the so called Pierre speed?

karina said...

It's a pleasure, Sax. Makes me to stay awake. Besides, not only i'm watching the game tonight, i'm getting Vin!

Steve Sax said...

Karina, I feel sorry for you but I feel worse for the Dodgers. A 1-run lead is already insurmountable; a 5-run lead is impossible.

karina said...

how about the 5-run inning? the fact Arizona lost today at the 8th inning?

I think nobody expected the NL West to be so weak at the beginning of the season.

karina said...

Over, Sax.

I think i might be a lot angrier, but they lost against the White Sox, i can deal, but i really hope it doesn't repeat again.

karina said...

Night! have a great day tomorrow!

Steve Sax said...

Karina, I will go to the game tomorrow and try to make sure they perform to your expectations. You deserve better than tonight's showing.

Whew. This game was turning into torture in the late innings. Do you think that Joe Torre should have yanked Derek Lowe earlier in his start? He looked a bit shaky in the beginning, but then settled in for a couple of innings before blowing two runs in the top of the eighth-inning.

Be sure to check out my Game Notes (Live Blog) on the game: http://dodgersdigest.blogspot.com/2008/06/game-notes-white-sox-vs-dodgers.html

Hey guys, I'm back. It was a game until the 8th inning. Lowe did a good job until then.

Karina, the boos were for the Chicago defense. Most Dodger fans love Juan Pierre.

Steve Sax said...

Even in defeat, Orel is hilarious!

karina said...

Steve, what can we do about it, anyways?

When my friends ask me why i keep rooting for teams that never win anything, i always say these are the loves of my life: you love them through thick and thin.
