Game 161 Thread; Sept. 29 vs Giants, 7.10p

Dodgers start Chad Billingsley, RHP (12-5, 3.09) vs. Travis Blackley, LHP (0-0, 3.60).

Dodgers: 81-79 (4th place NL West for good, 9 GB, W1)
Giants: 70-90 (5th/last place NL West, 20 GB, L3)

From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:

Dodgers: It wasn't his best outing, but Billingsley was good enough to stop the Dodgers' losing streak in Arizona. He got into the sixth inning and allowed only one run, although the four walks caused him more trouble than necessary and ran up the pitch count. Nonetheless, he's won five of his last six decisions.

Giants: Blackely made a good first impression in his first Major League start since 2004. Blackley's pitch speed hovered around 80 mph, but his command was good enough to shut out the Reds for the last four innings. Nerves and being out of practice led to a rough first inning when Blackley gave up a two-run homer, but those were the only runs he gave up during his five-inning outing. The performance earned him another start and a final chance to make an impression before the season ends.

COMMENTS: A Dodgers win tonight secures a winning record for the 2007 season. Let's go, Billingsley!

It's kind of amazing how difficult it is to sound spirited about tonight's game. Hooray for .500 ball!

Hey, forever blue--thanks for the kind words, but wait until you witness me supporting the Angels in two days. Your opinion may change...

Btw if anyone needs help it's billingsley tonight. He's down 3-0 in the second with the bases loaded and one out.

Kemp nails the runner at home, even taking his time on the throw off the sac fly. As he's throwing, he seems to be mouthing "f' you, plaschke, you hack."

Kiss my grits! Slappy with a 2-out 2-run RBI slap single! Dodgers retake the lead 5-4.

SC sneaks past washington.

Vin just made a remark that one rarely sees an outfielder make a good throw anymore.

Perhaps that's because he's watching Juan Pierre in center.

The corner graphic for tomorrow's FSN Dodgers/ Giants game rifled through pictures of three Dodgers: Nomar, Kent, and Raffy. None of whom will likely play tomorrow.

The good thing about not having playoff hopes is they can't all be pinned on Brett Tomko on the final day of the regular season. Take that, Padres!

Actually, Tomko will probably pitch a complete-game 3-hitter tomorrow.

5-5 tie thanks to a bomb by Ortmeier off Lurch.

Vin is talking about the Dodgers' attndance records and how the fans are unwavering...almost as if he's asking us to hold out on Frankie Take the Money and Run McCourt...

I hope Alyssa Milano leaves Russell Martin. Bottom 9, bases juiced, one out, and Russell Ks weakly. Nice.

Gonzo, perhaps in his last Dodger at bat. PH in the 10th with one out and a man at second in a tie game.

Gonzo with a walk-off RBI. And for what it's worth, I noticed Matt Kemp as one of the first people mobbing Luis. As were all the rookies.

And Luis was thoroughly professional in his post-game talk--and instead of citing vets vs. Youth, he cited a lack of strategy with the ever-changing lineups...GRADY...

Dodgers win, 6-5.
