Game 149 Thread: Sept. 16 vs. D'backs, 1.10p

Dodgers start Esteban Loaiza, RHP (2-1, 4.32) vs. Edgar Gonzalez, RHP (7-2, 4.76).

Dodgers: 79-69 (3rd place NL West, 3.5 GB; T-2nd place WC, 1.5 GB; W4)
D'backs: 83-66 (1st place NL West, 2.0 GA; L2)

Current postseason odds for the Dodgers, from Baseball Prospectus: 29.9%

From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:

Dodgers: After a decent debut, he threw in a clunker at Dodger Stadium and blamed the umpire's strike zone. He walked the first two batters he faced but also allowed three home runs, two of them when he was ahead in the count. Two starts would seem to be too soon to make a judgment on him, although the Dodgers made the judgment to claim him off waivers based on only two starts after he spent the first four months of the season on the disabled list.

D'backs: Gonzalez made his first start since June 26 last Tuesday in San Francisco and came up with a stellar performance. The right-hander allowed just one run on three hits over six innings of work. He did not factor in the decision as he left with the game tied at one. Gonzalez studies opponent's scouting reports and has a good feel for how to attack their hitters. That was evident against the Giants when he worked quickly and threw 51 of his 72 pitches for strikes.

Okay, down 3-0 and Loiaza is struggling with his control. Not insurmountable, but we need some sort of offense to show up. This lineup isn't helping any--we've only had six batters come to the plate through two frames.

With a day off Monday, you'd think Grady would be quick with a hook if Loiaza gets into trouble. But wait, it's Grady Little! Of course there's no hook!!!

Kent picked off first like Matt Kemp. Man, that was ugly--and ruins the rally. 3-1 Dodgers off of Furcal's HR.

No Martin, no Kemp--no offense.

Two on, none out, and the Dodgers can't score any when Lieberthal GIDPs and Nomar (pinch-hitting) pops out to first. This lineup SUCKS...

Eric Byrnes, his skippy-step trot and his fall-down-on-every-throw play, is really annoying.

Snakes have two on, none out, in the ninth, up 4-1.

Dear Grady,

Please do not ever, ever, ever under any circumstances, play that lineup again.
