Game 136 Thread: Sept. 2 @ Padres, 1.05p

Dodgers start Chad Billingsley, RHP (9-4, 3.50) vs. Justin Germano, RHP (7-7, 4.25).

Dodgers: 70-65 (3rd place NL West, 5.0 GB; 4th place WC, 5.0 GB; L2)
Padres: 75-60 (T-1st place NL West, W2)

Current postseason odds for the Dodgers, from Baseball Prospectus: 16.2%

From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:

Dodgers: Billingsley had a strong outing Tuesday night against the Nationals, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out six over seven innings to earn his ninth win of the season. Billingsley made two mistakes on the night and each one cost him a run. He left a fastball up to Ronnie Belliard, who drilled it for a triple, and he threw a belt-high fastball to pinch-hitter Tony Batista, who smashed it for his first homer of the season. Other than that, Billingsley was sharp locating his offspeed pitches and drilling his 94-mph fastball on the corners of the plate.

Padres: Germano struggled through his six frames in his last start but came out of it with a win thanks to a four-run rally in the sixth by Padres against the D-backs. Germano picked up his first victory in over a month, snapping a seven-game streak of losses and no-decisions. The rookie outpitched Arizona's Brandon Webb to record his second career win over the D-backs. Germano allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking three. Although he felt like he didn't get a good hold of his fastball early on, the rookie struggled through it to help the Padres tack on their second straight win against the D-backs. This was a big game for Germano and for San Diego, who provided him with the big at-bats to back him up.

The lineup, from Inside the Dodgers:

Furcal, SS
Pierre, CF
Kemp, RF
Kent, 2B
Ethier, LF
Martin, C
Loney, 1B
LaRoche, 3B
Billingsley, P

I don't know what the Sports Illustrated cover refers to; I'm assuming it's LaRoche's inclusion in a Loney/Kemp/Ethier lineup.

But any lineup that still has Slappy Pierre in it is a nightmare to me.

Padres wearing the camouflages today.

Let's face it; Pierre's not going anywhere.

That statue of Tony Gwynn probably weighs less than the real Tony Gwynn.

LaRoche K'd on three pitches. Welcome back to the bigs.

When did Justin Germano become Sandy Koufax?

Kemp needs help on the basepaths. He seems to make a stupid running play every week.

Adrian Gonzalez turns a single into a double based on Pierre's weak arm. This is humiliating.

Bills is dealing. Please score some runs for him!

Dodgers get a big win, but they're not out of the woods yet...

Orel, I'm also perplexed by the Dream Team reference...is Sax right?
