Post-Game 123 Thread: Roberto Is Our Homeboy

DODGERS 6, BARVES 4

Roberto Hernandez probably wasn't THE story of this game, but I couldn't resist the headline. He did pitch pretty well, though, giving up only 1 ER in 6 IP, with 5 Ks and 4 BB. The ex-Fausto's time in Blue is working out OK, so far.

Hernandez gave way to Brandon League, who pitched a clean-ish 7th (helped out by a 5-4-3 DP initiated by Juan Uribe). Things got, well, hairy in the 8th, as someone left Brian Wilson's switch on "Awful" again. Single, double, double, and suddenly what was a 5-1 lead was now a 5-3 lead. Wilson did manage to get the next two outs, but Donnie still felt it necessary to bring in Kenley for a four-out save. Aaannnnd...Kenley promptly coughed up an RBI single, making it 5-4. The Dodgers added a run in the 9th, giving Kenley a little breathing room. He ended up shutting the door, but some pitch count and velocity concerns almost guarantee he sits tomorrow.

The offense wasn't too shabby either. Dee Gordon went 3-4, scored four runs, and added two more stolen bases. NL RBI leader Adrian Gonzalez picked up three more. Puig had an RBI single and a thrilling wall-catch. And, miracle of miracles, Droopy Terra hit a two-run home run.

The win locks up a 6-1 record over the Barves this season, a 6-3 road trip, 70 wins (first team to do so in the NL), and a half-game pickup over the idle Giants.

Back home tomorrow for Star Wars themed fireworks!

I hope we can figure out how to beat NL Central teams on the plane back home. Maybe we can figure out a blowout win or two so Kenley can get some rest

Just checked into some baseball news. Karina's boyfriend on the Rockies AND Tulo are both done for the season. Sorry for them, but...I hope we get to play them a lot more the rest of the season. Too bad the SoSG summer interns have left to go back to school so I have to do this scheduling research myself.

Looks like six more times, so still a third of our games against them left.

We've got a 6-1 record vs Atlanta this year, right?

Thanks Gnomes for the GT and PGT.

just saw the highlights. Dee got two bunt singles, which is good.

On the hand, I'm worried.

Oh yeah, and Turner Field was totally empty today.

@Saxy, an announced 19,347, which means far fewer than that. Rick even commented on the "fans showing up as enpty seats"

"So we just finished a 4-game series in Atlanta."
"Hmm they're tough. How'd it go? They're pretty good and we've been really inconsistent. 4 games though? Didn't we just play 3 against them? That doesn't seem fair."
"Well we swept them in LA but we had Grienke and Kersh for 2 of those games."
"Well I can see that, and we just had 4 games this time, so chances are we had them pitch again, right? If we are unlucky with the rotation, at a minimum, one of them will pitch at least."
"You'd think that but no."
"Huh? How is that possible? Did we win any of the games?"
"Well Ryu pitched one of the games..."
"So we one that one?"
"... uh no"
"Ugh this is bad, who else pitched?"
"Dan Haren..."
"shit"
"Roberto Hernandez..."
"Huh?"
"and Kevin Corriea."
"wasn't he that stiff for SF and SD? I thought he went to Minnesota to die. Goddamn man, this is bad. Did we get swept?"
"Won 3 of 4..."

Oops! I guess I still had 5-1 in my head from when they mentioned it mid-game. Or I can't count. Probably the latter.

Love that convo FB. Seems like a puzzled look and "WTF" are fitting for the end of it.
