Game 116 Thread: August 7 @ Angels, 7p

Hyun-Jin Ryu (12-5, 3.39) vs C.J. Wilson (8-7, 4.74).

Halo, again? My god, this is a horrible, horrible video. Gaunt-faced Rick Ocasek was just ill-equipped to be a frontman in the music video era. The random Cars band members walking right-to-left and stopping to face the camera; what a ridiculous sequence. And the represhensible 80's fashions, with shoulder pads and big hair--yucch.

But blink and you'll miss it: that's indeed Gina Gershon at 0:42. And yes, that's not only Andy Warhol tending bar; he also directed this video.

Look, you might think it's crazy to be leading with this video on the Game Thread, going into the final game of this prolonged, two-stadium freeway series. But before we head off to Milwaukee this weekend, let's hope the team can drive some more HRs, and show some Dodger magic from the plate, to support our #3 starter's outing. I mean, Dan Haren was pretty good last night, right? So let's hope that come Friday, we're not asking ourselves, "why can't I have [Ryu]?".

Just opened a pack of baseball cards (2014 Topps series 1).

I got Oyster Pubes.

Boooooo

Nobody gets more frustrated with Danny Haren then me (well, ok, all of us) but it is kind of hard not to like the guy when in his postgame interview when asked what was it he did different he answered "I did a George Costanza, whatever I thought, I did the opposite". Now how can you not love that??

Saxy...Oyster Pubes? Has to be a bad omen.

@Karen: agreed. Nice

Okay, just got a Hyun-Jin Ryu card, AND a special "The Future Is Now" insert card (FN-15).

This box of cards has now been redeemed.

Steve Sax said...

I will say, with two Ryu cards in the same pack...I thought that that pack felt a bit heavier.

Dammit, A.J. Ellis is even getting mocked by mlb.com Gameday

If AJ Ellis gets a hit here, I'd feel more hopeful

Steve Sax said...

AJ walks, I'll take it.

CJ Wilson chased. Two on, two out, Rojas up.

If anyone in our lineup is playing through flu-like symptoms tonight, I would have to ask if they're feeling Ocasek.

Just saw the highlight of the Uribe RBI double. Nice to see that as a hit-and-run play with Kemp leaving first early. Way to go, guys.

4-0 Dodgers through 5.5.
