No, this isn't a Flash Gordon reference (surprisingly). Rather, I had an impulse to post how ESPN ranked the best hitting and baserunning tools (link insider only):
Fastest baserunner
- 1. Billy Hamilton, Cincinnati Reds: "His true 80 speed [on the scouting scale] gives him the ability to get from first to third in a hurry and makes him a threat to steal a base -- or two -- every time he gets on." -- Christopher Crawford
- 2. Dee Gordon, Dodgers: "I would love to see a race between him and Hamilton." (Bowden)
- 3. Mike Trout, Angels
- 4. Jarrod Dyson, Royals
- 5. Ben Revere, Phillies
So, Dee: You're #2. Want to get to #1? Then keep impressing us with your speed on the basepaths BUT FOR GODSAKES STOP BUNTING.

I know Dee recently had two bunt singles in one game (I can't remember the date). But when I heard him try and bunt his way on for Saturdays game I started screaming at the radio at the top of my lungs. Why, Dee, why are you bunting! You've proven you have improved your swing, and you can even get the occasional double or triple. So why waste that with a bunt?! Especially with none on?! STOP BUNTING!!!!!!
That is all.
A lot of people around me in the stands were grousing about the same thing.
@Dusty Baker: they are friends of mine, clearly
