Game 114 Thread: August 5 vs. Angels, 7p

Clayton Kershaw (13-2, 1.71) vs. Hector Santiago (3-7, 3.76).

After last night's unappetizing opener, let's fast forward to the game for which everyone has been waiting: Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw vs. Angels phenom Mike Trout. The question is, with Kershaw and the Dodgers fishing, will they be able to hook any Trout?

It seems like the Angels always have our number, but the stats are that we're only 40-57 against them (Sax's note: Orel reminds me that 40-57 is indeed pretty horrible. He was always better at math.). And until last night's debacle, we were .500 at home. So all we need is for Yasiel Puig to field fly balls with aggressiveness. And Hanley Ramirez to stop making errors. And A.J. Ellis to get a hit every once in a while. And maybe get a hit with a runner in scoring position. See, that was easy! It should be like shooting fish in a barrel!

SF storming back; MIL leads 4-3

Steve Sax said...

(bottom 7 btw, in milwaukee)

Steve Sax said...

Dee Gordon with a leadoff double in the bottom of the first, but Puigster flies out to center. 1 out

Steve Sax said...

A-Gon flies to center. Two out.

Steve Sax said...

Well, that wasn't very effective.

Steve Sax said...

Santiago had only 9 pitches there, thanks to incredibly early-in-count swinging by the Dodgers in the first

Steve Sax said...

Kershaw in trouble, second and third with one out in the second

Steve Sax said...

SF threatening in the top of the eighth, down by a run with two on and one out.

The world is falling apart here

Steve Sax said...

DAMMIT

Orel said...

Doesn't look like Kershaw's at his sharpest tonight

Steve Sax said...

Criminy, one series with the Cubs and now we've gone to hell in a handbasket

2-0 Angels, T2

Brewers escape. 4-3 MIL, B8

Steve Sax said...

Kemp works an 0-2 count into a single to center. Well done, Matty.

Hit a HR here SVS

Steve Sax said...

SVS walk.

Hit a HR here, Juan!

Steve Sax said...

I CALLED IT

Steve Sax said...

(I called the SVS homer as well, but still)

SAX CALLS IT

Steve Sax said...

Amazing how I can swing from all-out depression to all-out euphoria.

That's baseball for you.

Steve Sax said...

Ellis, who walked, is on second; Dee Gordon, who singled, is on first

One out (Kershaw bunt pop out)

Steve Sax said...

Fuck, Puig, take a damn pitch here and there.

Steve Sax said...

And, Ellis is caught sleeping at second for the third out. WTF, AJ. It's like you haven't been on the basepaths or something.

BOOOOOOO

(Still, 3-2 LAD)

Steve Sax said...

The Angels are sure getting a lot of doubles off of us lately.

3-3

Orel said...

A.J. is kind of killing us this year

Steve Sax said...

Pujols nailed at home by Uribe. Two out

Steve Sax said...

Milwaukee has some sort of challenge going on there, with the SF@MIL game having a lot of red diamonds on the mlb.com gameday page. I'm reluctant to click through and find out more.

Just got mom to sleep. I'm coming in at 3-3. Has the Kid not been his normal genius self??

Orel said...

Zack's bobblehead looks a little like it was inspired by The Exorcist.

Steve Sax said...

Snakes losing to the Royals 11-1. In the fifth.

Steve Sax said...

There you go, Kid. 1-2-3 inning in the fourth.

Epale, homies!

Steve Sax said...

AJ now down to .190

Hideo Nomo said...

Yet somehow has a .335 OBP.

Steve Sax said...

Clayton Ks Trout. Love it.

Steve Sax said...

@Gnomes, don't bother me with logic and statistics

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but was that some good defense by a Dodger outfielder just now? Great play SVS!

karen said...

Hola Gnomes!!

Hideo Nomo said...

Sorry. I'll go back to using my eyes to watch a baseball game.

Steve Sax said...

@Gnomes, you're right; Ellis' OBP is ahead of Uribe, Gonzalez, Ethier, and Crawford.

However his OWAR is below all of them except Crawford. And Ellis' OWAR trails both Greinke and Kershaw.

Hideo Nomo said...

What's his GWAR?

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

His GWAR is equal to the reverse splits of his \m/

karen said...

I'm blond. Can you guys talk in English? Preferably in one syllable or less?

karen said...

Loved Vin's Stargel story.

karen said...

Thata way to hustle Matty!

karen said...

That's my boy!!! Trout who??

karen said...

Boys up 4-3.

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

That's what I'm talking bout right there!!!

Hideo Nomo said...

I knew it. As soon as Steiner started talking about Kershaw being in line to be a 14-game winner, I knew the lead would be toast.

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

I'm no fancy baseball scout... But it looks like the Halos are enjoying themselves way more than the blue crew.

karen said...

AJ done good!

karen said...

C'mon Dre...Be the man!!

karen said...

Not loving Matty's new do.

karen said...

YEAH BABEEE!!!

Steve Sax said...

I will frickin' TAKE IT
