Post-Game 111 Thread: Grunk'd

Cardinals Fans Stoically Watch Their Team Lose Tonight

DODGERS 3, CARDINALS 2

Grunk'd, so the cool kids tell me, is slang (past tense) for "Greinke'd up," which is what happened to the Shards tonight. Zack was stifling after a couple of shaky early innings to bring his record to 9-3, while the Dodgers offense was able to scratch out just enough to eek out the win. This was He of the Tiny Head's 100th career victory, made ever so sweet by the fact that Greinke was responsible for the game-winning run with an RBI single that raised his BA to .405.

Nick Punto, filling in at short for Hanley Ramirez, played some terrific defense. Puig got the start, likely answering some (but not all) questions about his injured left thumb. While Puig didn't have a dominant night at the plate, he did figure in the scoring and it was good to see that he may be well enough not to miss any time due to injury (he also had his ups - assisted put out at home - and downs - an error). Credit to Paco Rodriguez, too, who pitched a two-inning save (and hold) effectively and gave Kenley Jansen some much-needed rest.

It's key for the boys to scratch these kinds of games out. We weren't doing that early this season, but now it is expected. Dodgers roll to 15 games in a row won on the road, which ties us for the 4th longest single-season road win streak in MLB history. And Kershaw takes the mound tomorrow against the Shards' number 5 starter.

This team... I'm either looking at heart break or VINdication by the end of it...

I know you boys don't care about '40s musicals, but the best line in MMISL is a comeback: the eldest daughter Rose proclaims "Money! I loathe, hate, despise and abominate money!" To which the father replies, "You also spend it."

@BJ

You should talk to Mrs. Dusty about musicals; you guys would hit it off.

And all this time I've been waiting for a Sting themed PGT. Apparently Showtunes trump Sting at SOSG.

Roll call: Who else got the amber alert on their phone?

Hideo Nomo said...

You might get a Sting themed PGT out of me, but it would be this one.

I almost shit the bed when I got that alert. Is this the first one they've ever done, bc everyone seems to be reacting as if so.

Fuck this bunch of b.s. I'm turning that function off, if I can figure out how to.

@Gnomes: I got the amber alert as well. It freaked the crap out of me. And now I can't find the details anywhere.

Settings --> Notifications --> Government --> amber alerts OFF.

Whew!

Steve Sax said...

Oh man, I hope they catch that guy.

But I gotta turn that alert off.

Dusty Baker said...

Now to figure out how to turn off alerts on work-issued BBerry.

Steve Sax said...

Throw Bberry in trunk --> close trunk

I would love it if we could count on somebody other than our best lefty reliever to close out games when Kenley needs a day off

Fred's Brim said...

I ain't complaining though. I love wins however we get them. I just wish we could trust League or Marmol a little more

Hideo Nomo said...

League will get there. I think now that he's not the worst option anymore, he's not feeling as much pressure.

Fred's Brim said...

That helped him a lot last year too after coming over from Seattle.

Captain Blue Beard is scheduled to throw in Rancho tomorrow. He'll probably be the go-to guy on Jansen's day off.

I didn't know my iphone had that siren alert. You bet your ass I quickly figured out how to kill the government alerts function.

Is there a way to have that siren go off whenever Marmole enters a game?

@DBT, I think you get an uncomfortable chill down your spine
