Game 112 Thread: August 6 @ Cardinals, 5p

Kelly. Cards. Get it?

Clayton Kershaw (10-6, 1.87) vs. Joe Kelly (2-3, 3.10).

Kershaw! Kelly! Wait a second, I think we've done this already.

The reigning NL Pitcher of the Month has the lowest ERA in the majors, and is coming off of six days rest. Kelly is no slouch however, with a 1.49 ERA since June 1, the lowest in the majors (40+ IP). The Dodgers are two games away from the all-time road winning streak record, 17 games, held by the 1984 Tigers and some other team. I'm wrestling with the thought, but I've got this sinking feeling we are going to kiss our road streak goodbye today. (And it won't be Kershaw's fault.)

Setting up for the series split?

Gotta keep pitching
We can't lose if they can't score

I can't imagine liking a second NL team. I like the Twins and the A's, maybe Baltimore too, but there really isn't an NL team that I even remotely like.

I just dropped my monocle.

Ah, the mighty Mississippi. Doing its best impression of the Willy Wonka Chocolate River since...forever.

Lilly deal has fallen through as the Gnats apparently decided to, I don't know, review his recent medical records.

Game starts exactly the same way it did yesterday. Damn you, MEllis.

Oh man Nelly is on the St. Louis telecast. The announcer is trying to convice us that he is a life long fan.

Cliff Beefpile said...

I'd love to see a trend of the gnats picking up Dodger re-treads and having them blow up in their face. Guillermo Mota was a good start.

IIRC, Nelly has repped the city of St. Louis in his songs and such. He may or may not be a big baseball fan, but he's probably been casual (or better) Cardinals fan for most of his life, in the same way famous people from LA like the Dodgers even if they're not hardcore.

I meant the announce was trying to convince us he was a Nelly fan.

Oh okay nevermind then.

"How often do you see a guy make a nice defensive play and then bat second in the inning?"

Um, a lot of times, Eric Collins?

Paul said...

That looked like a strike.

Nice double play.

Where's Charley tonight? Not on radio...

Every time Collins says something about Cosmo, I think about Kramer.

This game is pissing me off. How many white guys are allowed on one team, Shards?

I don't know if I should say this but League is beginning to intrigue me.

Gotta go knock on wood now.

The Brandon League Tour of Bullshit continues.

Enjoy that $30 million, League. You sure haven't fucking earned it.

Fred's Brim said...

so much for the confidence in League

Fred's Brim said...

I am sure he thought "I pitch better in mop-up situations. Let me make one real quick"

karina said...

well, do not be so pessimistic, maybe sucky League is an event. not a trend

karen said...

I should have known it would be League that would kill our road streak.

He needs to go the way of Jonathon Schmidt, Andruw Jones, etc...

Fred's Brim said...

League sucking has been a long series of events, punctuated only infrequently by moments of adequacy

Fred's Brim said...

and I still think he can be good for us, it's just frustrating to see him stink again after being halfway decent for a couple of weeks

Fred's Brim said...

and I don't blame him for the loss. Four double plays don't help anything

Fred's Brim said...

goodnight everyone. Let's start another streak tomorrow
