I Was Afraid This Might Happen

UPDATE (10.27p) (Sax): From ESPN, Volquez is in discussions only because Capuano hasn't been able to get it done:

Volquez is 9-10 with a 6.01 ERA in 27 starts this season. He has struck out 116 and walked 69 in 142 1/3 innings.

The Dodgers may be interested in Volquez as a possible replacement in the rotation for Chris Capuano, who has a 4.74 ERA in 20 games for the Dodgers this year.

If Woody had gone to the police, this would never have happened.

UPDATE 2 (8/29 4.56a) (Sax): More on Volquez, from Jim Caple's piece:

San Diego's Edinson Volquez, meanwhile, allowed the first eight batters to reach safely on Friday (2/3 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HBP), didn't get out of the first inning and received a pink slip after the game.

Dusty good news: 14 Dodger games this year

Dusty bad news: 7-7 record

(I'm at 12 and I'm only 7-5, too. All those early-season games were killer.)

I'll be back this Sunday to try to get above .500.

I think I'm there Sunday too...

I think Edinson is a good gamble but not this late in the season. He needs to be immediately fixable and I can't imagine how he could be. If we are done with Cap (and I am not), I would rather we go with Fife-Dawg

Steve Sax said...

I don't know what Cap's issue is, but I'm not convinced he can turn it around.

Edinson Volquez seems like a Hail Mary, but I have to give credit that Ricky Nolasco is performing beyond my expectations. So maybe there's lightning in a bottle, again?

I am hoping Honeycutt or one of the other coaches sees something he knows he can fix. Even if it takes a little time, he might be a valuable signing option for next year.

Yeah with Fife-Dawg coming up soon with expanded rosters, not sure why the Volquez Gambit as it has come to be known would make much sense.

Volquez is garbage. Why is Ned dumpster diving this late in the season?!?!

There is no argument in the world for inserting Volquez in place of Capo or Fife.

This is crazy ass shit.
