Post-Game 102 Thread: ICU

DODGERS 2, REDS 1

I see you, Hanley! All you do is hit.

Clayton Kershaw was absolutely dominant, at this point becoming the stuff of legend at the tender age of 25. He went 8 innings and only gave up one run, bringing his season ERA below 2.0 and moving his record to 10-6. But so was the Reds' Homer Bailey, who was trying to bounce back after a post-no hitter slump. So behind a sell-out crowd that was treated to this great pitching matchup, it was Hanley Ramirez left to make the difference, and he did, taking it deep to left with one on. His two-run home run was the difference, helping keep the Dodgers a half game up in first place after the D'bags had walloped the hapless Padres. Meanwhile, the equally hapless Cubs beat the Gnats 3-2.

Carl Crawford stayed hot, going 3-4 and Kenley Jansen was dominant for his 13th save.

Good bounceback win after last night's tough loss as we round into the second half of this four-game stand.

Just got home. Still have no idea what happened at that play at the plate with Hanley. But the Hanley HR was awesome.

Go Dodgers!

HanRam completely missed the plate. Catcher had the ball in glove. Ump initially called HanRam safe, then realized the runner hadn't hit the plate. Thus, the play was still live, Catcher then tagged HanRam before he could hit the plate.

Bottom line: HanRam made base-running mistake and wasn't anywhere near stepping on plate. Ump made mistake by quick-trigger on call at plate, possibly misleading runner to think he was safe and didn't need to do anything else.

Weird play, but overall was the right call, and HanRam made up for it later with his homer.

Thanks. So after the ump made his quick-trigger safe call, HanRam should have just walked away. Call was safe, end of play. Once he started doing that tap dance back to the plate, it was bad news.

But you're right, the HR was absolution.

In Hanleys defense, the reds catcher weighs about 350 lbs and is built like a friggin brick house.

Only way Hanley could've found the plate is by dropping flour around the area and looking for the wet spot. Oh wait, maybe that's a bad analogy.

Bottom line, big ass catcher blocking not only the plate but the whole line of approach. Hanley could not "see you" (the dish)

There have been some weird plays in this series: this one, obviously, but also the HanRam fakeout and the Puig ending up on third after stupid throw-in as Puig rounded first.

Expect two more games like this one...both teams will be red and blue afterwards.
