Stephen Fife (3-2, 2.83) vs. Madison Bumgarner (8-5, 3.08).
After a completely dispiriting loss to open up the homestand, the Giants trot out Madison Bumgarner, their best pitcher and 15th in the NL for ERA. Bumgarner goes up against Stephen Fife, who has only 12 career MLB games to his name (seven of which have been this year). On top of that, Matt Kemp's injury prevents Andre Ethier, lifetime .105 batter against Bumgarner, from sitting out this one. So Bumgarner should be able to feast on at least one Dodger outfielder today.
Surely, this very biased matchup should give the Giants some independence from their recent streak of woes (losers of 12 of their last 14 games), right?

Mellis rests too.
Must be an Ellis holiday.
Dock Ellis also has the day off. Lay off the 'cid, man.
Some Dock Ellis trivia:
"Ellis attempted to hit every batter in the Cincinnati Reds lineup on May 1, 1974, as he was angry that the Pirates were intimidated by the Big Red Machine.Ellis admired Pete Rose and was concerned about how he would respond, but Ellis decided to do it regardless. Ellis hit Rose, Joe Morgan, and Dan Driessen in the top of the first inning. Cleanup batter Tony PĂ©rez avoided Ellis's attempts and drew a walk; the first pitch to Perez was thrown behind him and over his head. Ellis threw two pitches that he aimed at the head of Johnny Bench, at which point Ellis was removed from the game by manager Danny Murtaugh. Ellis's box score for the game reads as follows: 0 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K. Ellis tied eight other players for the MLB record with the three hit batsmen in the inning."
Wow placing Uribe 5th in the lineup. I get that he had a great game last night but I foresee the pressure too much for him.
Makes sense. Ethier is hitting .105 lifetime vs. Bumgarner.
Per Ken Rosenthal:
"Sources: #Dodgers in serious talks for #Marlins’ Nolasco. Would trade 3 prospects, none upper echelon. “Getting close,” one source says."
I wonder what the price is for Garza.
I don't know how I feel about this Nolasco guy
To be fair, I don't know how I feel about Capuano right now, either. But I lament the opportunity to keep doing Marvel Comics-themed GTs every five days.
@Nats 2, Padres 1, mid-5
Rockies at Diamondbacks this evening (7p PT):
Colorado: Pomeranz (0-1, 8.31 ERA)
Arizona: Miley (4-7, 4.29 ERA)
I know exactly how I feel about Capuano.
45 mins until the ASG rosters are announced.
@Dusty 2:43: You've got to give me the name of your therapist.
@Alex Cora,
I foresee too much pressure on Uribe's feet. Talking about having to support all that weight.
Ned is working his magic.
@Paul: Is this the Jason Schmidt magic? Or the Brandon League magic?
@Sax
This is my therapist.
Ned Colletti, working his magic.
nice therapist.
Say goodbye to THESE.
Let me repeat: Uribe drove in 7 runs last night.
mmm Judy
@Dusty - we may as well cut him now
Judy Greer on SoSG
I don't think Garza or Nolasco is worth the prospects. Garza is definitely overrated and overpriced. Capuano is shitty, but he has a lower career ERA than Nolasco, is just as durable, and comes at half the cost.
Capuano is 34. Garza is 29.
Admittedly, Garza IS the higher Scrabble score. So there's that.
Wow. 30 comments and the game hasn't started yet. I hope Stephen "Don't call me Barney" Fife can be not sucky. (Yes, I be an English major).
ASG13 announcements start now.
2013 AL #ASG Starters: C: Mauer 1B: C. Davis 2B: Cano SS: Hardy 3B: Miggy OF: A. Jones OF: Trout OF: Joey Bats DH: Papi
Judy Greer and Carla Gallo need to do a movie together. They both seem to be naked or sexing in every role they have. It's time to team them up
Fuck you, Oyster Pubes! You're not starting.
NL @AllStarGame starters 1B: Votto 2B: Phillips SS: Tulowitzki 3B: Wright C: Molina OF: Beltran OF: CarGo OF: Harper #ASG
No starters from the three teams leading their respective NL division.
Good insight from TBLA: Bryce Harper a starter. Removes Yasiel Puig's greatest competition in potential final vote
AL pitchers: Buchholz, Cecil, Colon, Crain, Darvish, Hernandez, Iwakuma, Masterson, Perkins, Nathan, Rivera, Sale, Scherzer, Verlander. #ASG
Let's just go ahead and do the AL and forget about announcing any of the NL.
It is clear to me now that I don't pay enough attention to the AL
AL #ASG reserves: Castro, Cruz, Encarnacion, Fielder, Gordon, Hunter, Kipnis, Machado, Pedroia, Peralta, Perez, Zobrist.
N.L #ASG SP/RP: Kershaw, Corbin, Harvey, Wainwright, Grilli, Zimmermann, Kimbrel, Chapman, T. Wood, J. Fernandez, Lee, Jeff Locke, Bumgarner

Puig sure to make final roster spot vote ASG PR thingy.
I wonder if Zimmermann can get an acquittal before the ASG
Scutaro. Fuck you, Bochy.
i wonder how many write-ins Puig got. Would MLB release that?
Agreed Cliff: Scutero does NOT belong there
AL #FinalVote candidates: Benoit, DET; Delabar, TOR; Robertson, NYY; Scheppers, TEX; Uehara, BOS.
I had something to say about Scutaro on twitter. Hint: it wasn't very nice.
NL #FinalVote candidates: Desmond, WAS; Freeman, ATL; Gonzalez, LA; Pence, SF; Puig, LA. VOTE: atmlb.com/12ODWdB #ASG
if Puig gets in, do you think Bochy would dare sit him the whole game?
You voted for Yasiel Puig in the 2013 All-Star Game Final Vote Sponsored by freecreditscore.com. Msg&Data Rates May Apply. Reply Help for help.
If Bochy is that big an ass, he will live to regret it
Puig had 842,915 write-in votes, most since #Pirates Freddy Sanchez totaled 856,685 in 2006.
@Dusty...Great Dock Ellis trivia.
Bruce Bochey has always been a piece of shit. I always remember what Tommy Lasorda said about him..."Bruce Bochey couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat". And now the jerk manages a piece of shit wannabe team.
I'm feelin' the HATE.
@Karen
Thanks. That game where he tried to hit everyone sounds like Spanky pitching, no?
hateHateHATE!!!
ps- Wash yer hair, Timmeh!
@Dusty...Of course Spanky would be wearing his rally thong.
Fuck. The. Gnats. And Bochy.
Joe Buck looks like he's on a 2-month hunger fast.
fuck you, Fox, and your pointless blackouts.
I'll be watching Paul Blart, Mall Cop instead of the Mets-Brewers game you limit me to.
I bet that it pains the hell out of Buck to have to speak so highly of Yasiel.
Fife is taller than I recall.
Man on third, one out. Oyster Pubes at bat. Bochy eating shit in the dugout.
I am sure Fox is fucking with Gameday too. It seems to be a couple of batters at a time and then catches all the way up
Did Gnats hit out of order? HAH!!!
Does a Fife failure today make the Nolasco deal happen sooner?
Sounds like the Nolasco trade is imminent, either way.
Can anyone ever remember a batting out of order failure like that? Not in Little League, but MLB?
Gameday isn't giving me anything. Did Bochy write out the card wrong? Did Pubes not knock in a run?
Wow that was a slick move by Donnie
The lineup cards distro'd at home plate before the game had one thing, but Oyster Pubes and Fat Panda batted differently. Donnie waited until Posey had his AB and then pointed it out, so the run was erased, an out was declared (second out), the runner sent back to third, and Pubes back up to bat. He then flew out to Puig.
Fife the didawg hits White Loney to put him on first.
thanks, DB - Gameday would never be able to figure that out
You mean Scout was no help?
Gotta cover first, Didawg.
Scout said that Fife, at only 8 pitches, had plenty left in the tank
Did Scout mention how shitty our defense has been this inning?
Pitch right,Barney!
Pinche Punto
Punto, you're no Derek Jeter.
Tighten it up, fellas!
I waited all day for this game? JFC.
Cmon, Fife, let's get out of this
Three runs seems like 12 somehow.
Weisman needs a Twitter break. Who wil notice?
Wow game day totally lies with its description of the giants batting mess up.
Is Bumgarner perfect so far?
ok gotta check out for a bit
good luck, everyone
throw strikes!
Yeah he's perfect so far. Perfect game. Wow. Wouldn't want to jinx that by saying he had a perfect game and a no hitter. Perfect game. Yup. Sure does have a perfect game. Hey macarver tell the audience that he has a perfect game.
I've seen enough of T-Fed. His pitch sequencing sucks a bag of assholes.
Surly factor: 7.75
Only a beer in.
Nice throw fed ex!
T-Fed proves me wrong. Nice throw, kiddo.
lets get some runs
Yeah and break up this perfect game.
Break up this perfection, Puig.
Come on Puig.
Puig is the Designated Kemp today.
Buck only calling Puig by his first name (and over enunciating it) is bugging the shit out of me.
Just got back from walking my dogs. Looks like I missed some gnat run scoring.
Maddy has a perfecto going?
Huh.
Just poke one through, mofos!
^that's what Neeebs' mom said.
mute button engaged. fuck this shit
Eat shit, Butt Gardener!
Butt Gardener gave up the first hit to Dre then got pissed off and threw a meatball to T-Fed, who took it out the Yard.
Yeah. No perfect game! And a score. Sweet
Bochy said he thinks they are making progress with Panda's weight? Really? I guess if their goal is to increase it. He looks fatter than I've ever seen him. His face is he size of a giant fat ugly fucking pumpkin.
Can't watch the whole game (cousins dinner), but will keep my fingers and toes and eyes crossed. I think we can pull this one out.
T-Fed, you are no Benito Santiago.
"We're making progress on Pablo's weight. He's down to eight glasses of melted butter a day."
Looks like Puig altered his stance a little. Toe tap the front foot now. Not working.
For the record, Charley's call of FedEx's homer was quick, calm and confident. Really.
Who are we giving up for Nolasco?
Joe Frisaro @JoeFrisaro 4m
The deal, from what I've been told, is done #Marlins #Dodgers Nolasco for Ames, Wall, Sanchez
Nolasco > Capuano and Nolasco > Fife tha Didawg, no?
I'd agree with that.
I completely agree, Spank.
LOL LOL
TRIPLE FOR HANRAM! What a fucking hit. All this guy does is hit.
Hanley trippple!
I like the Giants' left fielders.
D.U.M.B.
Bad jump, bad slide by Hanley. At least he can hit.
Bad decision by HanRam to try for home, two runs down.
Dodgers just Tweeted:
"Welcome to the Los Angeles #Dodgers, @RNolasco47!"
So it's official.
That's for Roger Nolasco, their new clubhouse attendant.
This feels like a game we should be watching at SoSG Fest.
In other words, I'm not nearly drunk enough.
@Nomo
I was thinking exactly the same thing earlier in the game!
So how good was Ames and Sanchez?
@AC
Meh. We didn't give up much.
Sandy Rosario? Rosie Sandario?
One-out, pinch-hit double for JHa Kid!
LOL Ken Rosenthal vs. rbn on Twitter.
0-32 when trainling after seven innings, these Dodgers. Wow.
I wonder if the earth shifted when panda just dove for that ball.
Surly factor: 8.5
Mostly McCarver related.
Here we go. Single double tater. Go home.
Tater tater tater would also be acceptable.
Joe effing Buck contributing to surliness over here.
Time for our boys to put these orange wearing morons in their place.
Then realize there's a game Sunday. Hop back on plane.
Buck is enjoying Puig's strikeouts way to much.
Puig looked like Serrano striking out.Fuck you Jobu.
Ok fine double tater
I'm naturally 8.5 surly.
Is that the dick rookie ump at third?
I rarely go below 6.75 surly.
FUCK YOU ROMO!
Nolasco statement: "Going to play for the Dodgers, the team that I have always rooted for, is a dream come true."
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Did romo just taunt Hanley with the ICU gesture?
(immediately switches over to Red Sox v OC Angels)
Hopefully Nolasco has more balls than Dwight Howard.
Anyone see that on the fox broadcast?
@AC...I didn't see it. What did he do?
I thought he did the ICU gesture that Hanley does when he was congratulating his teammates. I don't have a dvr so I can't rewind to see it.
Boy if he did, makes him more of a jerk.
Yup he did
https://vine.co/v/hWVuqKdMm9Z
You stupid ass Romo. Now you've rattled the big dog's cage.
Too tired and bitter to do a PGT. Goooood night everybody.
@Karen
I like how your comment about the big dog matches your avatar; it looks like the dog in the avatar is saying that comment.
