Hyun-Jin Ryu (6-3, 2.83) vs. Matt Cain (5-4, 4.29).
The Giants-Reds game was postponed yesterday, giving them a temporary respite from their recent run of two wins in their last 13 games, including a recently-completed 1-8 road trip (which included a three-game sweep in Los Angeles).
Yasiel Puig has not yet faced Matt Cain. Puig is hoping to bolster his potential All-Star credentials.
This should be interesting.

Gotta keep mashing
...these potatoes, why do we need five gallons of mashed potatoes?
Mash mash mash mash
...was the best TV show ever.
Fuck you, Dwight Howard.
Wash 6, SD 2 in the fourth
Why isn't Jim Buss getting the blame for driving Dwight away?
Annyong!
I hope Kobe does this again
Annyong!
Giants are...Annoying!
On the living room sofa, Vin!
I am watching this game with my mom. This should be fun.
The giants look like pylons in these uniforms
The giants look like pylons in these uniforms
My god, no shit, it looks like Panda ate Uribe. Panda is freaking obese.
Vinny saying panda seems to look bigger than the last time we saw him. You are such a class act Vin, but it's ok with me if you just come right out and say "Dude is a fat ass".
Dodgers let Cain off easy in the first: ground to third, ground to third, ground to first. I think he's at six pitches.
Torres reaches on a bunt single, when Ryu sails his throw high to first. Not good.
DP here boys
Throw strikes rye bread
throw strikes
yeesh - don't give these chumps any confidence
Respirator to home plate, STAT!
looks like we're not gonna get anything close tonight
shoot - almost had it
finish this, kid
Could have been worse.
ok i'll take it
Ryu's shakiness gives them a run in the first, but that's it. It's 1-0 SF after 1.
Ramirez wasn't close to that ball, now a 3-2 count
Foul, just missed
Nice AB Hanley, drawing the walk.
why was that pad down the line mic'ed up?
good job, Hanley
Ethier, nice double down the right field line! Second and third, none out
attaboy Dre!
Ellis, M, 2B .260
Puig, RF .426
Gonzalez, Ad, 1B .303
Ramirez, H, SS .404
Ethier, LF .261
Kemp, CF .254
Ellis, A, C .262
Uribe, 3B .270
Ryu, P .226
(sorry, some of these BAs are in progress in this game)
Kemp looks like he's hurt on his left shoulder on that 1-1 pitch (he swung and missed).
Now would be a time to put in Crawford, no?
The bad news is, a bad Kemp K would be invigorating for SF.
Arizona up 2-0 on COL and threatening for more in the bottom of the third
Padres lost.
uhoh
cmon Matty, be honest here, don't eff yourself more
Matt worked the count back to 3-2
Nice job, Matt Kemp works the walk without swinging again since that potential apparent injury. Well done, Matt.
AJ Ellis with RA and none out
Rancho Ardiendo baby
Matt Cain has never given up a grand slam.
Ellis pops out to short right foul ground.
Here's Juan Uribe.
Urine scores two with a double!
JUAN URIBE IS MY HOMEBOY
YAHOO!!
Steak and eggs for everyone!
2-1 Dodgers, one out. Kemp at third, Uribe at second. Ryu up.
@BJ: Steak and eggs, indeed.
Oddly enough, I actually DID have steak and eggs this morning.
Ryu ropes one down the right field line but a foul ball
Another roped foul down the right field line. He's late, but he's making contact!
Steak and eggs!
1-2 pitch looked pretty close, but it's 2-2 to Ryu
full count to Ryu, Cain gets a questionable called strike 3. Still, a full count--not bad.
THIS UMP WTF
I'm sure the ump is wearing a gnats jersey underneath his jacket
Regarding Dwight Howard the Houston Rocket:
Earlier, a source told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard that Howard had landed in Los Angeles and contacted the Lakers, telling them he was 50-50 on his decision to sign with either them or the Rockets.
Howard's call to the Lakers came hours after a person from his camp informed the team that he would not re-sign with Los Angeles, according to the source.
"He changed his mind," the source said. "Hey, he's Dwight. What can you say."
Mark Ellis flies to right. Dammit, that should have been a lot more painful for SF, but I'll take it.
Crawford keeps fouling 'em back here
Ryu walks Crawford
UJTD!
Uribe starts a nice 5-4-3 DP
My mother: "Uribe was a goat, and now he's making a great play. I am so glad I stuck with him!"
Clearly, my mom is losing her memory.
Crawford is a pest. Is he small enough to be an MSB?
2-1 LA through 2.
Puig, first pitch double right over the line, past a toppling weeble-wobble (Sandoval)
Cain at 41 pitches with none out in the third
A-Gon swinging a bit more wild than normal. 1-2 count
Adrian works the walk. First and second, none out
way to work it, AG
Matt Guerrier makes the news! His passed ball for the Cubs today allowed the A's, and the game's only run:
The Oakland Athletics beat the Chicago Cubs 1-0 on Thursday, the lone run coming when A's catcher Derek Norris bolted home on a passed ball thrown by Cubs pitcher Matt Guerrier in the seventh inning.
A 1-0 game in itself is fairly unusual, but a 1-0 game where the only run scored on a passed ball? That's far more rare. Leave it to Elias Sports Bureau to sleuth out the last time — and it's a really cool fact.
Such a game last occurred 20 years ago — to the exact day. Yep, on July 4, 1993, in a Los Angeles Dodgers-Montreal Expos game. That game was even more dramatic, as the Dodgers won on a passed ball in the 11th inning.
And now we wait until July 4, 2033 to see if the pattern holds.
Cain at 51 pitches, with Ramirez in a 1-2 count
Hanley, base hit up the middle scores Puig easily!
Ramirez' streak goes to 16 games, tied for his career high
Love how Hanley kept on hitting it foul down first then made the adjustment to line one up the middle. 3-1 Dodgers.
attaboy, Hanley!
3-1 Dodgers.
First and second, none out.
Looks like Crawford is subbing for Kemp.
Kontos to the bullpen!
Carl Crawford is indeed in the on-deck circle.
Mattingly reads our GTs!
@Orel, we really should watch a game together some time
So we were at full health for two innings.
looks like Crawford will be taking Matty's spot :/
i am way behind apparently
You're right, Sax. How's early August for you?
i am really hoping it's a scar tissue tear or something, not something serious
BUT HOW WILL ALL FOUR OUTFIELDERS GET PLAYING TIME?
@Orel and Saxy - have you two met? I bet you'd get along, you have so much in common
Ethier with a weak fly to shallow left.
One out, Crawford up.
@FB: Ever since the jello incident, Orel's been hard to catch in public.
@FB: How is married life going, btw? You crazy kids having kids yet?
Crawford gets a four-pitch walk. Cain is really scared of Crawford, apparently.
@Orel: August 3 may work, though I think that's an early game in Chicago
Cain is all over the place.
Take a deep breath here AJ (1-2 count)
@Sax: Interesting. We just have to find a place.
A.J. RBI! 4-1 Dodgers!
Ellis base hit to center scores A-Gon! 4-1 LA
Uribe up with bases loaded an one out. Uribe actually takes the first pitch, a rarity--but it's in the dirt.
C'mon, Uribe. Knock this guy out.
^and
Rancho ardiendo
Cain's at 71 pitches; even Vin is surprised
I am impressed at how Vin is being biting to the Giants without being directly biting to the Giants. It's all subtle digs. It's really very sophisticated.
SWEEEEEEET
Uribe n third! Giants' left fielder went for the diving catch and it got by him!
7-1 LA
That was...the least likely outcome.
Cain is gone!
Wow Urine!
I'm lovin it! (Sorry mcD)
Giants' left fielder: Cole Gillespie.
Hmm, I sense a PGT theme coming.
Cain with the 27.00 ERA today. Probably shouldn't have started him on my fantasy team.
Hell yes!
Ryu RBI! 8-1 Dodgers!
30.86 ERA!
That's only the second out?
Bring him home, Puig!
Puig looked hurt on that swing
@Saxy, no kids yet, but we're not not trying
I hope the boys stretched. Looks cold out there
@AC looked like he was still feeling his hip
i'll take it
Btw. Are they ever going to rest Puig? I know it's not a good time now but he is sure playing a whole lot of games in a row.
Only the 3d inning and already over 130 comments. We must be winning, yes? Let the good times roll!
hmm
@FB: You could have said that about the Dodgers at the beginning of the season.
tighten it up, fellas
Get it together, Ryu. Seven runs can disappear real fast.
not not not trying?
Gets Oyster Pubes to pop up. Nice.
I think you need special merkin mousse to get your pubes to pop up like that
Siddown, Underpants!
attaboy, kid!
Saweet!
"...after the Giants, for one brief, shining moment, led one to nothing in the first inning." —Vin
cmon fellas, keep the good ABs going, don't get loose
That wasn't a sign call from Bruce: he was crossing himself
Hanley is unconscious.
Dodgers making lots of contact.
like Jodie Foster
Now movie studios are scouring Twitter for pull quotes.
COL 0, ARI 3, B7
SD 5, WSH 8, F
great inning
sorry to step out there, working on the PGT
Like the confidence, Sax.
1-2-3 inning in the fifth for Ryu
still 8-1
I hate these farmer boogers
another great inning
@Sax: agreed
Love this pitcher's ERA!
@BJ: How's the Candy Crushing going?
damn, thought he had that one
I'm so afraid of league coming in anytime soon! Or ever again...
Would be nice to see Crawford get a hit here
3-2 to Crawford, Puig on second and Ethier on first. Two out.
Nice play by Kickham to get that third out--ball ricochets off his foot and he chases it down and shovels to first to beat Crawford. Still 8-1.
I forget how nice it is to hear Vin at a road game. This is special.
Sandoval flies to left for out #1 in the sixth. Here's Oyster Pubes.
That color combination just isn't slimming on Sandoval.
Oyster Pubes grounds out to Uribe.
Pence flies to Ethier in center.
11 in a row retired for Ryu.
Ryu at 92 pitches through six.
great inning, i love it
Los Angeles Dodgers @Dodgers 2m
Update: Matt Kemp left tonight's ballgame with left shoulder AC joint irritation. Kemp is listed day to day.
Why does James worthy sound like he sucked helium before doing those Jevin Jewlers commercials?
Awful lot of empty seats there in Phone Park. In a "sellout".
Which inning does league pitch in?
AJ with a leadoff single to left. Puig would have had a triple on that hit.
Uribe 2-run HR! Wow, he is on FIRE
Cycle for Uribe to tonight? Just needs a single!
URINE!!!
Clayton was digging that
Uribe is growing on all of us!
Uribe says FU to the team who left him out of their WS ring ceremony.
(checking to see if Uribe is in his walk year)
Ellis gets all the way to second on an error on Brandon Belt, plus an error by Abreu on the throw.
Nice
@Orel: Yes, Uribe is
Poor MEllis
Ned just signed Uribe to 5 more years.
Ellis gets to third on a wild pitch. One out.
Start resting some people Donnie?
Not enough runs. We need 5 more for true humiliation.
Puig is slumping.
"The Giant fans don't have very much to cheer about." --Vin, when Puig Ks in the seventh
man the Gnats are stinky right now. We gotta keep our boot on their neck the next two games. They won't be this bad for long
Ellis stranded in the seventh
could have sworn I just heard more people say "...root, root root for the DODGERS" up there during the Phone Park stretch
Yay, photogenic Dodger family!
I also get irritated when AC doesn't pass his joint.
Is that Leslie Nelson behind the plate?
But this s@$t is soooooo gooood.
Did Crawford hurt himself again?
Think this lead is big enough for league?
Guess Crawford is okay.
Crawford with an outstanding catch in left. Hope he's not hurt!
Nice play Crawdaddy.
