Louisville vs. Southern Miss, 5p.
When the BCS fatcats tell you that the collegiate bowl season is critical to the fabric of college football, and necessary to keep college athletes and their fans invested in the drama and spectacle of the college football season, you need only to point at the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl as a counter-argument.
For those of you who don't know Beef 'O' Brady's, the superfluously apostrophed restaurant chain (with unnecessarily animated "locations" map over on the left hand side of its website!) is a 25-year old chain of franchised Irish pub-themed family-friendly restaurants. What is a family-friendly Irish pub, you ask? Try, one that doesn't serve hard alcohol.
Isn't that sort of like a soy-patty burger? What's the point?
According to their store locator, there are no locations within 250 miles of Los Angeles, which is unfortunate since I'm dying to try the Super Sampler: 10 mini corn dogs, 4 loaded potato skins with sour cream, 4 chicken fingers, a full order of crispy chips with queso dip and salsa served with honey mustard and BBQ sauce for dipping (no substitutions, please).
Anyway, the most redeeming thing I could find about this game was the fact that, according to ESPN the Rag (Dec 27 2010 issue), the players' swag bag includes Oakley Fuel Cell sunglasses and a Xbox 360. If any of you Louisville or Southern Miss players want to try and take me on in CoD:MW2 (I'm at level 66 now), just leave me a message in the thread with your gamertag. In fact, I'll probably be playing at around 5pm today. I assume you'll be busy.
Back to the game at hand, however. After the clamor demanding last Saturday's bowl thread, I'll keep putting these bowl threads up if you guys want 'em. I'm there for you. (Even if Beef 'O' Brady's isn't.)
