Game 151 Thread: Sept 16 @ Pirates, 4p

Derek Lowe (13-11, 3.48) vs. Jeff Karstens (2-5, 4.46).

COMMENTS: Listen up, yinz guys! The Dodgers, with Manny and Lowe n'at, play game two of the four-game series today at PNC Park. Pirates fans have been in poor hap since Willie Stargell stopped spreading some chicken on the hill, but we Dodger fans don't mean to jag ya', even when you're serving up taters to Juan Pierre of all people. We'll keep our neb-noses out of it and refrain from the slippy slope of disparaging comments. What? You're mildly offended already? Get aht!

Wait. This isn't the off-day puzzle on game day.

First one to decipher Pittsburgese wins the contest???

Martin, C
Ethier, RF
Manny, LF
Loney, 1B
Blake, 3B
DeWitt, 2B
Pierre, CF
Berroa, SS
Lowe, P

One jack and all of a sudden you're better than Matt Kemp.

QuadSevens said...

With all that power in the bottom third of the lineup, I'm expecting 50 runs of support tonight for Lowe.

Steve Sax said...

Before the game, Derek Lowe weeped.

Orel said...

The Pirates are trying to tire Martin out at first.

Orel said...

Is Nyjer Morgan from Trenton? Or the Bronx?

Orel said...

Steiner and Lyons practically guaranteeing a Lowe win. Of course, Morgan singles and Berroa makes an error to let Sanchez on. 1st & 2nd w/no out.

Eric Karros said...

Hi Orel.

Eric Karros said...

Some Gameday for me tonight

Orel said...

4-6-3 DP puts Morgan on third with two ot. Lyons says good play by DeWitt.

Orel said...

Hi EK. Is it too early to start preparing for the post-season?

Orel said...

Blake bomber!

Steve Sax said...

Ethier, 0-for-1 as a father

Orel said...

Lowe looks stunned in the dugout.

Eric Karros said...

You or the team?

Orel said...

DeWitt singles.

Orel said...

Me. I'm thinking about putting bunting up around the house.

Steve Sax said...

First pitch of the second inning goes yard. Nice job, Casey!

DeWitt then follows with a single, giving us Blake-to-Blake hits.

Eric Karros said...

Blake gets 2 hits this inning

Steve Sax said...

Orel: strangely, so is Juan Pierre

Eric Karros said...

It's so much fun when DeWitt and Blake bat consecutively

Eric Karros said...

In fact they made a movie about it - The Two Blakes.

Eric Karros said...

Orel - the playoffs are a lock.

Steve Sax said...

So far, the only out this inning (out of four batters) has been from Juan Pierre.

karina said...

Orel, what does it mean "putting butting up around the house?"

Epale, guys!

Orel said...

Dodgers get a break with that call at first.

Eric Karros said...

Pierre got his week's allotment of total bases yesterday.

Steve Sax said...

Lowe reaches

Martin: In play, run(s)

Eric Karros said...

Epale K-rina (that is what your nickname would be if you were a power pitcher).

Steve Sax said...

Looks like Martin hit it deep, though not deep enough...

Eric Karros said...

In play, run(s), baby!

karina said...

but deep enough to bring a run in!

Steve Sax said...

dueces wild for Andre

Steve Sax said...

sorry, deuces

karina said...

Love that nick, Eric!

Steve Sax said...

Ethier breaks out of his hitless slump as a father!

RBI single! 3-0 LA

Orel said...

K-rina: bunting.

Stadiums put it up for special occasions. Yankee Stadium with bunting.

Eric Karros said...

And the hits just keep on comin'!

Steve Sax said...

Manny doubles! But Ethier can't score from first since he is so slow as a new father. 4-0 Dodgers, men on second and third.

Eric Karros said...

If Erin were a defensively-challenged infielder, her nickname would be Errin'

Now I'm making up baseball nicknames for people that aren't even here. 4-0 Dodgers!

Steve Sax said...

Loney strands 'em, fly out to left.

4-0 Dodgers, after 1.5 innings.

Eric Karros said...

What's new, K-rina?

QuadSevens said...

Dodgers are on fire!

Eric Karros said...

I'd pay Pierre a lot of money if he could guarantee he'd be the only batter in an inning to go hitless

Orel said...

Loney vacuum!

karina said...

Thanks, Orel. You've taught me something!

karina said...

Eric, i got a fashion styling gig at a small magazine and i was paid with clothes and shoes.

karina said...

I can live with his Juan for four antics, what bothers me the most is his noodle arm at center.

Eric Karros said...

Wow already two outs.

Eric Karros said...

I hope at least the clothes and shoes fit.

karina said...

Steve, i forgot to mention: R.E.M. is coming up to Venezuela!. They'll be here in the middle of the feria of Our lady of Chiquinquira http://tinyurl.com/554rrd, but i don't care, i might skip a couple of baseball games (my favorites in the calendar)...but i guess it will be my birthday's present this year.

Orel said...

Blake barely missed HR #2. Gets a triple...is a cycle possible?

QuadSevens said...

Casey Blake with a triple!

QuadSevens said...

Monday on the radio also mentioned the cycle. Early enough in the game for that to be a posibility.

Orel said...

Karina, you can wear your new outfit to the R.E.M. concert!

Eric Karros said...

Back-to-back Blake-to-Blake hits was not to be.

karina said...

They fit and i could choose them by myself!. They don't have money to pay me but gave "some stuff" i wanted from the sponsors...

Eric Karros said...

Before today Blake hadn't hit for the cycle over the entire season.

Loney Fan said...

Hopefully Juan Pierre can just stay out of the way as much as possible.

Eric Karros said...

I have no idea what Luis Cruz looks like in real life, but in his portrait on Gameday he looks about 9 years old.

Eric Karros said...

Ok folks, I'm heading out, will try to stop back by before the game's done.

Steve Sax said...

Juan Pierre was only two hit types away from the cycle last night, just like Casey Blake right now.

Karina: I'd rather see Soda Stereo than REM. Saw Soda Stereo last November on the reunion tour. They were awesome.

karina said...

I don't think i'd be very stylish that day, i don't know what time the concert is...maybe i'll do the same thing i did when i saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers: get on a bus the night before the concert, killing some time in Caracas, going to the concert, get on the bus right after the concert, back in Maracaibo next morning. It's feria time here, i can't miss my feria baseball games!
Outfit: one of my R.E.M. shirts (audition needed), jeans and my converse shoes, depending on the hour of the concert, a cap, sunglasses and sunscreen.

karina said...

King James works the walk.

karina said...

I adore Soda Stereo, they came to Caracas last year but i couldn't make it because of school/work. Instead, went to the baseball game to see my beloved Aguilas lose. My brother did make it, he called me on certain pieces!.

I'm so excited about the R.E.M. concert. Y' know Out of Time was the first record i bought by myself, i was around 9 or 10. By the time of Monster, i had every R.E.M. record at least once and they 're my all-time favorites, so it's a big deal for me, in my birthday week!

Neeebs, do you like Los Prisioneros?.

karina said...

Back to back singles by Sanchez and McLouth. No outs.

karina said...

Doumit singles. Dodgers 5, Pirates 1

Steve Sax said...

Freddy Sanchez scores from second on a single hit to Juan Pierre.

All the joy from JP's HR yesterday dissipated in a snap. Noodle Arm!

karina said...

Moss GIDP. However, there's a runner at third.

Steve Sax said...

neeebs and karina: what soda stereo song(s) do you recommend?

Neeebs (The Original) said...

Karina: I have a friend from Maricaibo who went last year and said that it was pure KAOS, at the Soda Stereo concert.

I am Los Prisoneros challenged. But I do like La Ley and Presuntos Implicados.

karina said...

Pierre solo HR yesterday=the run scored for his noodle arm (and his poor location and approach to the ball as usual).

Neeebs (The Original) said...

La Ciudad en la furia (hopefully I have this name right.

Also, Suave Mente.

karina said...

The essential Soda Stereo song is En la Ciudad de la Furia. Some other favorites: Entre Canibales, DE musica ligera, Corazon Delator, Un misil en mi Placard, Cancion Animal, Persiana Americana, , Lo que Sangra (La Cupula), Ella uso my cabeza como revolver...Comfort and Musica para Volar, their MTV "plugged" is a great record that summarizes their career very well, Andrea Echeverri (Aterciopelados singer) makes a memorable duet with them to perform "En la Ciudad de la Furia".
I'd also recommend highly Cerati's solo work, he's a genius!

Alex Cora said...

Looks like we are doing pretty well here. Nice to play these struggling teams.

karina said...

Neeebs, my brother had a great time, well he's a part-time professional musician so i'm sure he was happy to hear them live...

Steve Sax said...

Karstens' night is done, and his pinch hitter flies out to end the fifth.

5-1 Blue, end of five.

karina said...

Lowe gets Andy LaRoche.Cruz grounds, Pearce flies out.

Lowe made me not to miss Big Z on my fantasy team...

Alex Cora said...

Lowe is cruising. Let's keep the offensive rolling. Take some bp against these guys and get saito some work.

Orel said...

Karina, feria (and your birthday) are in November?

Orel said...

Tell me you started Zambrano for his no-hitter!

karina said...

Blake, this is the opportune time to get your tonight's double!

Orel said...

Casey Blake is a double away from the cycle!

karina said...

Sure i did start him, Orel!. He's one of my all-time favorites, even when he was a minor leaguer, pitching on winter league and i was just excited he was starting after a 2-week break!

karina said...

I'll take that RBI single! Dodgers 6-Pirates 1

Neeebs (The Original) said...

By the way, I'm just saying...

The Dodgers are 13-2 from August 30 to September 15.

August 30 was the day that the Magic Gloves found their way to soft hands that fit the gloves.

karina said...

Yes, Orel. In fact, the feria most of the time starts on November 11th, my birthday.

Steve Sax said...

Lowe Ks McClouth to end the sixth. 6-1, Blue!

Orel said...

KCAL's Game Summary said Dodgers 5, Pirates 1. Great eye, guys.

karina said...

Pierre is already Juan for four tonight, striking out to start the inning. Mr. Torre, could you bring back Matt Kemp tomorrow, please?

Steve Sax said...

If Blake can get the cycle, this will be the final piece of proof we need that portends a magical run for the Dodgers this year...

Steve Sax said...

Saturday's game vs. SF is sold out already.

karina said...

Are you planning to go to Dodger Stadium this weekend, Steve?

Steve Sax said...

Andy LaRoche grounds out to end the seventh.

karina said...

No cycle for Blake. Great performance tonight, though.

karina said...

Question: do we have to root for the Phillies/Mets, so the Dodgers face the Phillies/Mets on the NLDS? or will it better if they face the Cubs first?

karina said...

McLouth starts the 9th with a double.

karina said...

McLouth scores on a sac-fly. Dodgers 6-Pirates 2

karina said...

DeWitt error. Beimel is out, Brox is in. Runner at first, two outs.

karina said...

Andy LaRoche just had his second K of the night to finish the game. I hope he doesn't get any Micah Owings for the rest of the series.
