Game 149 Thread: Sept 14 @ Rockies, 12n

Greg Maddux (7-12, 4.24) vs. Aaron Cook (16-9, 4.16).

COMMENTS: The Dodgers, thanks to wins in 12 of their last 13 games, are now a season-high six games over .500, as well as a season-high 4.5 games ahead of Arizona (who lost Saturday in the 10th inning against the hapless Reds). Maddux is trying for his 355th career win, which would have him break his tie with Roger Clemens for eighth place on the all-time victories list. Cook, on the other hand, is just looking for his 17th win this year, also noteworthy in that it would tie the Rockies' franchise record for single-season wins. So what's it going to be today, gentlemen? (a) Maddux; (b) Cook; or (c) none of the above?

Why bother with winning the division. The Angels winning the World Series is just a formality.

Thanks, toady.

Pierre, CF
Kemp, RF
Ramirez, LF
Loney, 1B
Blake, 3B
DeWitt, 2B
Berroa, SS
Ardoin, C
Maddux, P

Ethier still busy birthin'babies. Russell gets a rest. Pierre batting leadoff. Hmmm.

Berroa with the Dodgers' third hit. He seems to be getting it done with the bat lately.

Orel said...

DeWitt's settling in at second.

Four pitches for Maddux in the 4th....

Orel said...

Berroa with another hit!

Berroa with the leadoff single!

Hello, Orel.

Tody, as awesome the Angels season is, let me remind you the Rockies reached the World Series last year. I feel dreaming like the Dodgers will reach it, too (besides this team is more talented than last year Rockies).

A rare pitching's duel at Coors Field.

Matt singles on the 6th. One out. Manny's up.

karina said...

Kemp caught stealing.

karina said...

Maddux has cruised 5 innings with 42 pitches. Outstanding.

karina said...

Dodgers have 6 scattered hits. Go, boys! Mr. Maddux truly deserves to win this game.

Would someone elaborate on Blake's injured back? what happened?

karina said...

Martin replaced Ardoin. He grounded for the second out.

why doesn't Torre let him rest?

karina said...

Young pinch-hitted for Maddux. He singled. Repko is pinch-running.

Torre is playing with all of his chips.

karina said...

It's arguable Torre pulled off Maddux: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 ER, around 70-75 pitches, using not one, but two players to fill his spot.

Wade is pitching the 9th.

karina said...

Wade made the 8th with 7 pitches.

Orel said...

Hi Karina! They said Blake's back stiffened up. Took him out for precautionary reasons.

Orel said...

Nomar draws the walk.

Thanks for the update, Orel. It's been an exciting game, i'd wish i could watch it on TV.

Orel said...

If Manny Corpas is 6'3", 170 lbs. (as Vinny says), then I'm the Queen of England.

karina said...

Torre, you could have left Young and get Repko for the next pinch-hitting situation. Orel, if the Dodgers make the playoffs, do you think they should include Sweeney in the roster?

karina said...

Holliday with the leadoff single. Kuo is pitching.

Orel said...

Should they? No. Will they? Yes. I'd rather see Andruw Jones than Mark Sweeney.

Orel said...

Rockies with men on 1st & 2nd w/1 out.

Orel said...

Blooper to right center. Kemp missed on the diving catch but it was close enough to keep the runner from scoring.

Rancho Ardiendo for the Rockies. We should pull Kuo, but Torre's going with him.

Orel said...

Game over.

karina said...

They can't with them all, right?.

Orel said...

No, two series wins is good. Apparently the Pirates just swept the Cardinals—bad for the Dodgers and good for the D'backs. Let's hope the Dodgers can at least split the four in Pittsburgh.

Cincinnati wins by one run, in ten innings! Again! Magic number is ten!
