Chris Young (4-4, 4.74) vs. Greg Maddux (6-11, 4.22).
COMMENTS: NL West 2008: The Race to See Who Sucks Less continues! As we turn the calendar page to another month, the Dodgers hope to turn the page on their crappy August and really give the Diamondbacks something to worry about: a team that sucks less!
The last-place Padres had a rough August of their own, twice getting swept by the Giants and both sweeping and getting swept by the Diamondbacks. So who the hell knows what they're thinking, except that they own the Dodgers. Why are we dancing around the obvious? I know it, you know it. Nothing is safe when the Padres are in town.
However, the Dodgers do have a few things going for them today. Young is coming off the disabled list after straining his forearm August 10. And that's on top of taking an Albert Pujols liner to the face, breaking his nose and fracturing his skull, in May. The fact that Young isn't curled up in a ball somewhere is a miracle in itself.
The other side of today's matchup is equally as intriguing: Maddux going against the team he's pitched for almost all season. If there's a lineup Maddux knows inside and out, its the Padres. Will he be able to turn inside information into a win? I'm just happy it's September and we still care.

6-6 tie in AZ, bot 6.
D'backs win 8-6. Thanks a bunch, Cards.
1-0 Padres on three consecutive singles. Guess they know Maddux pretty well too.
Ethier walks, steals second and advances to third on a wild throw by the catcher. Loney singles him in (with two out!). 1-1 tie.
Matt Kemp with a great diving catch—in the sunlight, with sunglasses still flipped up!—to open the second!
Matt Antonelli gets his first major-league hit off Maddux, who's still not fooling anyone.
Maddux out of the second unscathed.
DeWitt gave it a ride but Giles caught it on the warning track.
Berroa with the seeing-eye RBI! 2-1 Dodgers!
Maddux RBI!!! 3-1 Dodgers!
Maddux with the hard slide into second! The old man is feeling his oats tonight!
Rancho Ardiendo, but with two out, for Loney.
CASEY BOMB! 4-1 Dodgers!
DeWitt's hit it hard twice but has nothing to show for it.
Hey, Orel - Lonely over here? Nice to see that we are up on the pads as the snakes won already.

"More brothers," nice one AC.
Three in a row! Against NL West opponents, no less. Lead stays at 2.5.
