Nervous Time At Chavez Revine

I'm going to the game tonight. I'll have great seats, up the third base line, field level. I'm sure to get there early.

And I'm going with a Braves fan.

I've been to a decent amount of playoff games in the last five years at Dodger Stadium, some with good outcomes, others not so much (but even then, it wasn't all that bad). And I've gone to games with friends who happen to root for the opposing team, during the regular season.

But I've never been to a playoff game with a friend rooting for the opposing team. Until tonight.

Yep, my friend from Atlanta happens to be in town this evening, so of course we're going to the game together. He was kind enough to have taken me to Turner Field back in 2007 (I know we look remarkably alike, but he's the one in the Braves shirt), so it's really the least I could do. Plus, his trip out here was planned well before we knew there might be playoff implications.

And here we are.

I for one am a nervous wreck before big games. I can't imagine what it's like to be an athlete on the field, because even as a spectator in the stands I'm totally freaked out. I find myself so nervous about the game itself that sometimes it's a challenge for me to enjoy the event, as I'm so wrought with concern. And this time, being a host, I know I'm going to overthink everything here, and try as best I can to remain dispassionate even if my stomach keeps on doing somersaults. I think my friend will be cool--I did tell him to be smart and to avoid wearing Braves colors, or he's on his own--but boy, this is going to be crazy.

If any of you guys are at the game and on field level, please keep an eye out for me (I'll be wearing a Dodger hat) and let's go grab a beer or three to calm the nerves. I'll need the help.

Good luck, Saxy. I am really nervous too, and I'm not going to the game. I am just sitting here on the couch trying to make the 6-hours-until-gametime go by as fast as they can.

What I can never get my head around is that in these situations the game feels like it moves so differently, so much faster, and not like a regular game

I'm so nervous that I'm just not that much fun to be around today as I move from one side of the sofa to the other.
