RIP, Funny Man

The great Bubba Smith is gone.

Of the many things Police Academy gave us - and the list is not short - not least of which was allowing Bubba Smith to show his super-human strength and acting chops as Sgt Hightower. Not unlike how Bon Jovi eventually became a respected classic rock act just by sticking around, Mr. Smith went from fifth banana to leading man once Steve Guttenberg turned his attention to Cocoon sequels.

Only when Bubba Smith left the series, before the timely Part VII - Mission to Moscow, did the franchise finally die on the vine.

Good night, sweet prince.

They showed Police Academy: A New Hope on Comedy Central last weekend. I hadn't seen the original in years. My favorite part was Steve Guttenberg wearing a #15 Darrell Porter Cardinals jersey at a party. This was the party where the two jerk cops were tricked into going to the Blue Oyster for some slow dancing

Ah, the Blue Oyster Bar.
So many memories.

@DelinO - the last time I was there, your name was still on the bathroom wall. You must have left quite the impression!

@FB

I heard he left his impression on the top shelf!

Any of you having trouble loading mlb.com this morning? It might be my dialup modem

If Delino didn't have such an affinity for USC, I might have a man crush on him this morning.

Still loading on my C64. Only half the time since I upgraded to a 28.8kbs modem.

Oh shit! Call waiting interrupted.

@Sax

There is a picture of Brad Penny on the mlb.com home page. The extra heft may explain the extra-slow loading.
