Spring Training Game Thread: April 5 @ Giants, 1p

James McDonald vs. Jonathan Sanchez.

COMMENTS: If a tree falls in the forest and no one sees or hears it, does it fall? Or, asked another way, if the Giants win a spring training game over the Dodgers, does it matter? To the Giants, it probably does matter; manager Bruce Bochy has already told everyone how important it is for the team to win its spring games. The Dodgers are less impressed with sprting records, holding Manny Ramirez, Rafael Furcal, Orlando Hudson, and Russell Martin back home rather than shoot them up north for this meaningless last exhibition game (have you seen how expensive Southwest's fares to the Bay Area have gotten?). The only Dodger for whom this game might matter is McDonald, who was named the fifth starter earlier today. Congratulations, James!

Dodgers get on the board first with a two-out RBI from Free James Loney, scoring Bench Juan Pierre.

James McDonald has 3Ks, 1H and 1BB through two innings. Sanchez has 4Ks through 3IP but 1ER.

Whoops, McDonald has a rocky third inning himself, giving up three runs to the bottom of the Giants' order. 3-1, Giants.

Lindblom looked pretty good in that inning. Could he really win a spot? This guy, along with Belisario, wasn't even on the radar two months ago.

Lindblom is indeed chugging along, into his fourth scoreless inning of work though admittedly against the non-starters (on a team where even the starters should be non-starters).

Barring a comeback and the potential of extra innings which neither team nor fans want, Lindblom's outing is over, with four innings of scoreless work and 3Ks.

The concession stand operators like the extra-inning spring training games, though.
