Post-Game 137 Thread: Where a Win Feels Kinda Like a Loss

DODGERS 10, ROCKIES 8

Not sure how to feel about this one. One the one hand, Kershaw looked less than mediocre for the second time in a row, and though he got the win, he left after 5 innings (81 pitches). A succession of May-like relievers followed; Wilson was effective but Belli and League were not. Even Kenley looked human, giving up a home run and barely scraping three outs. Aside from the pitching, the fielding was shaky at times and there were a few questionable base-running situations. Michael Young struck out on three pitches in his Dodger debut. Worse, Puig had to leave the game with a mild strain of his right knee.

On the other hand, the offense produced ten runs and just kept chugging along despite the pitching keeping giving up leads. Ethier had a bomb and went 3-4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Uribe went 3-5 and had some timely hits. Even Kershaw got in on the offense, getting 2 hits and 2 RBI. Dodgers move to 12.5 games above the Dbags and narrow the magic number to 14.

Sooooo...we won, but the hard way. Leaves this reporter thirsty and surly, just the way the day began.

For my own sanity, I will chalk this up to playing in Coors

what stinks is we have two more there and then go to CIN for 3 where they aren't too friendly to pitchers either. I hope we can come back home with some of our pitching confidence still intact

And looks like Edinson will start Wednesday.

Thanks for the PGT Dusty!

I can go back to my barbecue sauce

Volqoors.

@FB: I am kinda hoping that we don't show any of our cards in Cincinnati. Volquez starting Wed in Colorado makes no sense as it's not a proper place to judge form anyway.

We should start Volquez, Capuano, and Fife in Cincy.

And, we should start Young and Gordon in the lineup.

We can sit Puig for a couple games to rest the knee.I hear we have this Kemp kid on the bench waiting to play.

Dusty Baker said...

Kemp is currently 0-18 in single A, trying to get his groove back.

Now I really want some BBQ now that Sax mentioned it.

Per Tony Jackson, Puig will not play tomorrow but was already due to have the day off. Test of the knee will be Wednesday. Puig said his knee had already been barking awhile, and that this was a tweak of that existing pain.

Here's hoping it's late-season aches and pains and nothing more.

Push: nothing that a little bit of barbecue sauce can't fix

Last beer of the day finished.

Mostly Japanese beers imbibed this evening. Pretty good show!

Dusty Baker said...

I'm opening last beer of the official summer, too. Sam Okt seems a little odd to do that with, but it's what I have.

Which Japanese beers did you have, Saxy? Love me some Japanese. Beers.

Steve Sax said...

Sapporo and Kirin both. Good times. Wonderful hosts who had the beer fridge stocked!

Nice, Sax.

Today I went:

Sam Okt->Gin and tonic->Malbec->port!->Sam Okt

Sad to be closing out the technical summer, but looking forward to the stretch run and to another two months of SoCal summer. Though for the record I'm wearing a nice Brooks Bros striped linen shirt that now has to be retired until next season. Which means now I can pull on an old Public Enemy concert tee and feel more comfortable.

Steve Sax said...

Holy shit Dusty. Were you at a clambake today?

Brooks Brothers is too high-falutin' for me!

Dusty Baker said...

@Sax

Naw, I was just kicking around the house. Clambake would have been a good idea, though, I do say old chap.

Steve Sax said...

I will get my seersucker suit ready, then.

I like me some See's Suckers.

Bolo tie, too, brother!
