Post-Game 138 Thread: Forever, Young

DODGERS 7, ROCKIES 4

Michael Young, who estimates that he went to Dodger Stadium around 20 times a year while growing up in Covina, got his first hit as a Dodger tonight. Young was 0-for-4 in the ninth inning when he singled to left field, and then came around to score on Charlie Culberson's three-run E7 (dropped fly ball). There's your Dodgers memory, Young! Cherish it forever!

Ricky Nolasco had another solid if not shutout outing (6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB and 3 Ks). J.P. Howell was nails in the seventh, Ronald Belisario was the opposite of nails in the eighth and ninth (this is starting to be worrisome, if he's reverting to early-season form), and Chris Withrow got the final out.

Carl Crawford went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI; Nick Punto followed in the two-hole by going 4-for-5; and even Tim Federowicz had a 2-for-3 night with an RBI. Andre Ethier went 1-for-2 with three walks (two runs scored) and that fly ball in the ninth off the bat of Mark Ellis was the insurance we needed to win the game. Dodgers take the series, with the final game at Coors Field tomorrow evening.

Magic number drops to 13, pending the outcome of the Blue Jays @ D'backs game (6-4 Toronto in the bottom of the seventh).

Yo! Guy from Alphaville actually looks like Michael Young too.

I'm thinking Beli is expendable as far as postseason rosters go.

Make party!!

Adam Lind HR in the top of the ninth makes it TOR 8, ARI 4 (0 out)

Beli just looks like something is off-track again. I wasn't sure what put him on-track by June. But he looks off-track now.

Moises Sierra (who?) HRs with JP Arencibia on, so now it's 10-4 Toronto with none out in the ninth

Beli looks tired. But Coors field is not really the benchmark to judge.

Woooo. Blue Jays are the Eye on Baseball Heavyweight Champs at the moment, too. Yes, I'm still following that.

Just finished watching the game, Vinny!

Mrs Dusty had DVR'd it but forgot to add extra time. So I got right to the point where MEllis cleared the bases with that double for our insurance runs, then it cut out.

Yeah I think Belli is just a bit tired from the season, which is diminished bc we have some other folks to go to that we didn't have just a couple of weeks ago (Marmol, BW) and Withrow is back up now.

Like the way Donie is managing this; with lots of padding in the division now he can afford to rest guys (e.g. HanRam again today) and limit SP (eg Nolasco today).

I was feeling a little cocky then I remembered that Edinson Volquez is going for us tomorrow.

I'm never feeling cocky about this team

I'm feeling very uneasy with Edinson Volquez going tomorrow. It just doesn't feel right. I'm thinking that he's not Dodgers material.

Steve Sax said...

I'm right with you, karen. Wait until you see the GT.

I agree with Belli being tired. I don't understand why you go more than an inning with him. I think he's one of the "trusted" guys but that doesn't mean you should run him into the ground. A lot of other guys are getting rest but it feels like Belli (and Kenley) goes every other day. Let's win 12-1 today so we don't have to think about it

oh yeah, Volquez
hmmm

I think we should bring in Scott Proctor and just make him pitch every inning, every day.
