Clayton Kershaw (14-8, 1.92) vs. Madison Bumgarner (11-9, 2.82).
This is it, The Final. The final game for me, that is, as SoSG Sax gets in what is likely to be his last regular-season game of 2013. Weep quietly if you're away from the Stadium tonight (after all, I'm 8-5 this year overall and 8-4 at home); but be sure to make a comment if you want to grab a beer at tonight's game (I'll be field level, third base side).
But it's not all about me, right (even though I'm Your Man)? We've got two Young Guns going for it on the mound this evening. Kershaw's 1.92 ERA still leads the majors (second is Jose Fernandez' 2.19 ERA, which will probably stay level as Miami has shut him down for the season); Kershaw also leads in WHIP (0.92) and IP (216.0). However, Kershaw hasn't been as sharp his last three outings, giving up 8 ER total while going 1-1 and lasting under 6.0 IP two of those outings. We'll see if tonight brings Clayton a little Freedom from his recent woes.
In A Different Corner is Bumgarner, who hasn't had a win in his last seven outings (three losses, four no decisions), seeing his ERA rise from 2.69 to 2.82. Bumgarner is 2-1 against us this year and 7-3 against us lifetime (his best win percentage in the NL West). But a win tonight by the Dodgers would take us to The Edge of Heaven, dropping our magic number to 4 (and possibly 3, if the Rockies can win against Arizona tonight (6:40p first pitch)).
