Edinson Volquez (0-1, 7.20) vs. Trevor Cahill (6-10, 4.35)
Count Von Count would have LOVED last night's game.
"One... Two... Three... Four... Five... Six! SIX! SIX HOME RUNS! AH AH AH!"
The Count will have another opportunity to, well, count tonight with Edinson Volquez and his 7.20 ERA taking the mound for the second time as a Dodger. (The Count would also have a lot of fun with the number of different names Edinson has used in his career.) I'd normally be pretty worried, but it definitely looked like the sleeping offense finally awoke last night. Can we get six more home runs tonight? Seven? Eight?
Twelve?

Uribe had better hit three HR again tonight, or we're never going to get out of Volquez' hole
That pinball animation video is so 1970s, Gnomes. I love it. I need to watch it again with my afro.
BAL 4, NYY 1, T6
BOS 1, TB 0, T5
CHC 5, CIN 0, T4
PIT and STL are scoreless in their games
Gnats and Rox officially mathematically eliminated. Pads go in 2 and D'bags in 8. Saweet!!
Another late night for me. Won't make it but I wanna wake up to the magic number 6
@BJ: Then if I were you, I would set my alarm for just after 5:59 am.
Thank you, Detroit! Good night!
Yanks take a 7-5 lead, dammit
Cubs up 7-0 on Reds, b6
@BJ: Giants still have a magic number of 2 for the WC
KCAL 9 on!
No one on the top deck tonight. Must not be a Hello Kitty giveaway night.
Volquez gets a K!
1 out
Comebacker for out #2
Puig Ks, Crawford grounds to pitcher.
Hanley walk, Gonzalez single to right. Two on for Andre.
Ethier check swings on a 2-2 count but they don't call it...
Ethier up, 3-2 count, Andre hits a playable ball to center field.
0-0 through 1.
Gotta hop, Karen. Looks like the bar is pretty empty tonight, sadly.
I never did hear the story why Volquez came here with a fake I.D. Anybody know why?
0-0 through 1.5
Cubs up 9-1 on the Reds, B8
That'll teach them to sweep the Dodgers
Uribe with the leadoff walk
Uribe is always on the bases. Are they made of marshmallow?
WP gets Uribe to second; Jellis lines out for out #1. Mellis gets a single to put runners at the corners.
And here's Edinson.
Bunts
Uribe in! Dodgers up 1-zip.
Volquez bunt in front of the plate leads to a Keystone Kops episode: Montero's throw to second goes into center field, Mellis advances to third and Uribe scores.
One out, men at corners.
1-0 Dodgers
Only 9 more runs for comfortable lead!
Puig hits a shlow shot to third to score Ellis, but gets Volquez forced at second.
2-0 Dodgers, two out.
steal a base for me, Puigster
USA beats Mexico, 2-nil. I think that gets us into the World Cup? Maybe?
I'd like to see Crawford get on a hot streak right about Oct. 1. Think we will need him big time.
Puig in fact does listen to SoSG Sax, steals second base.
@Paul, I agree. I think we're going to need Crawford like he started out the season, hot as hell
Knock him home, Carl
Or, ground it to first for the third out.
2-0 Dodgers through 2.
Ned is the Father Flanagan for pitchers. Lets get a third good inning here.
God job.
Oops good.
Great inning, EV!
hmm that was so slow
I think AG managed to miss the slide but he was so out, the ump had not choice but to call him out
AG may have had a homerun start out of the box
Dre hit it pretty hard too
AJ has to figure out that Volquez breaking ball
nice backhand by Uribe saves a double!
Montero singles to get the backs on the board. Of course Goldschmidt got another hit to get it going. Volquez's wild pitch allowed him to get to scoring position before the hit by Montero
Narsty curve finishes the inning, 2-1 good guys
FB needs a friend
We need a rally
DiDi Ramone muffs the easy grounder from AJ
FB lonely
it'll be good to see Ryu again. It seems like it's been forever since we've seen him
Im watching the game with Coco Loco.
I'm lonely too.
Ryu should be well rested.
Volquez swings at a ball in Torrance
I read in Coco's autobiography that he intentionally tries to seem distant so as not to fall in love again. Last time hurt him too much
@FB..."Volquez swings at a ball in Torrance". I was thinking the same thing. Just what in the hell was dude swinging at??
ugh, be ready to pull him, Donnie
uh oh.
christ
What a surprise. Volquez gives up the lead.
that meatball was low and inside to a lefty. nice
coco fell in love with his cousin tia loquita. He hasnt been the same since.
Waste of a pick up. I'd rather see Fife
I think Volquez's problem is that he is wearing George Sherrill's old hats. We know those things didn't work
I wonder what Adam's eating
@Neeebs me too, both on Fife and Tia
Nice pick AJ
Lol my man, FB.
The truth will set us all free.
now is not the time to get impatient, fellas
work this mofo
For some reason I don't like this 3-2 score.
Right on the ankle
Dammit, please don't be hurt for real
Yo Adrien
Tied up. Lets see what Volquez does next.
Easy does it Uribe.
Yank EV
Hanley looked really gimpy coming home on that Dre double
holy moly
you've gotten as much out out Volquez and you can unreasonably expect. this is house money now
After watching Volquez for a few games now, both his style on the mound and demeanor in the dugout, I would say he is in low end the Oil Can Boyd part of the pitcher craziness spectrum
Good job, Edinson. This start is one to build on
Jerry fouls it into his nuts. Ouch!
Or thigh.
Nuts, nuts, nuts,nuts
oh man, so close
Cmon, Paco
I want the July-August Paco
I also need bed really bad
gnite, yall
Nite FB
Ah shit, I'm back and FB and Neeebs are out.
And it's tied at 3, bottom 8.
Dre with a weak dribbler. 1 out
Uribe chases a bad one, Ks. 2 out
So here's Jellis, and now is a time to talk about this: what happened to A J Ellis? Batting only .246? Wasn't he once a OBP machine?
I have loved watching AJEllis this season in post-game interviews; he's always really positive and seems like a good leader. But I wish he could hit again.
He's down 0-2.
Harris' dumpy little curve isn't fooling anyone (but he's still getting outs)
AJEllis out 6-3.
Heading to the ninth, 3-3 tie.
3-3 tie, here's Kenley Jansen for the ninth.
Awesome 2-2 pitch there, Kenley. Montero chases a bad one for the K. Two out, man on first.
Kenley gets another K for the third out.
On to the bottom of the ninth, tied at 3.
Mark Ellis leading off.
Nick Punto comes out to the on-deck circle. Interesting.
Pop out to second.
Punto goes back in, here's Skip Schumaker.
Puig Ks for the third out.
On to extras, where the D'backs are 16-6. (The Dodgers are 8-5, which isn't so bad either.)
offensive fizzle
Okay, so we're in the bottom of the 10th. Crawford, Ramirez, A-Gon, all vs. Collmenter.
Crawford pops to short. Boo. He's now 0-for-5.
Ramirez pops to 2B Prado.
Two-out single by A-Gon. Here's Andre.
what took so long Donnie?
Dee Gordon coming in, on a 2-0 count, to run for A-Gon.
This does not seem like a good move, unless we can only win by failed bunt attempts.
Ball 3 to Ethier. 3-0 count. Gordon still at first.
Gordon in fact steals the base, thanks to an offspeed pitch. SB #7.
All right, Donnie: prove me wrong.
Nope, IBB to Ethier. Here comes Uribe.
WP, both runners advance. If I were GIbby, I'd walk Uribe for AJEllis.
AJ has better plate discipline
Uribe with another violent swing on 3-1. 3-2 count now, two out
All you need is a base hit
Ball is at Uribe's shoestrings, but he swings and fouls it off
Uribe Kd on a 99mph fastball upstairs.
Uribe is 0-for-4. And now we're stuck with Dee Gordon.
Tied 3-3.
Michael Young takes over at first base.
Neeebs baby, since it's just the two of us, let me pour you a tall one.
How are things?
Bloomquist 4-3. He's also a Crawford-esque 0-for-5
Withrow strikes out Goldschmidt. Goes to the bottom of the 11th, tied at 3.
Withrow strikes out Goldschmidt. Goes to the bottom of the 11th, tied at 3.
Come on, AJ: End this.
Nice grab by Eaton in right center to grab that AJ Ellis ball. 1 out.
Mark Ellis with a single up the right field line. Nice job, Mellis!
BOOM! DODGERS WIN, WALK OFF HR BY SCOTT VAN SLYKE!
Scotto!
PGT up!
Sorry Sax. I fell asleep.
