Game 143 Thread: Sept. 9 vs. DBacks, 7p
Ricky Nolasco (7-1, 2.27) vs. Randall Delgado (4-5, 3.69)
Four-game losing streaks suck. There's no sugar coating it. That said, let's focus on some positives:
The Diamondbacks can't catch us head-to-head.
There are only seven games remaining with the DBacks, including tonight. The Dodgers' current lead in the NL West is 11 games. The Magic Number currently stands at 10. While it would have been nice to have a shot to clinch during this series, sweeping it to drop the Magic Number to 4 isn't too shabby. Plus, the DBacks just dropped two of three to the woeful Giants. Oh, and according to their own game notes (sent to us by SoSG regular Dusty Baker's Toothpick), they don't even know who they're facing tonight!
Puig and Hanley can hit baseballs into space.
No arguing that the offense has been asleep for the last four games (and possibly even longer), but Puig and Hanley did take turns obliterating home runs over the weekend. If they can keep that up while everybody else is shaking off the funk, this should be a fun series.
Hello Kitty is good luck.
It's Hello Kitty Mini-Bobblehead Night! As weird as the Dodgers/Sanrio mascot relationship may seem, the team has thrived on Hello Kitty promotion nights. (They may even be undefeated. I researched as far back as 2011 and didn't find a loss.)
And last, but certainly not least...Vincent Edward Scully.
Tonight begins twenty straight games called by Vin on TV. No more Collins and Lyons. No more national broadcasts (at least until October). Just the sweet, sweet storytelling of the master.
The end is in sight, lads. Stay on target!

Gotta keep pitching
that goes for starting pitchers and the bullpen
Shake the Etch-a Sketch lineup!
Puig RF
Crawford LF
Ramirez SS
Gonzalez 1B
Ethier CF
Uribe 3B
Mellis 2B
Federowicz C
Nolasco P
(Although I think that lineup did OK before.)
No more Lyons! PTL!!! Vinny, yeah! I won't be able to stay up for the whole game.
I KNOW WE CAN DO THIS MY BLUE BOYS!!!
Forgive me all but I must toss in this 2 cents...Congrats Rafa Nadel!! This Dodger girl loves you!!
What the hell happened to our lineup there? Weird shit going on
Atlanta up 5-0 in Miami (bottom 7), but Miami is "threatening"
Orioles up 4-2 on the Yankees (1/2 game behind the O's), T8. Go, Orioles!
I would love to know what Mattingly's objective is here. Is it resting our guys and preventing potential injuries or it winning home field advantage? Whatever it is, these line-ups of late suck the fat one.
As I mentioned earlier, the Puig, Crawford, Hanley, AGon 1234 was pretty potent when Donnie tried it for two games.
Who's resting aside from AJ?
i believe this is our playoff line up boys and girls sans FedEx (AJellis). El Don is trying to be cute with the Etch-a Sketch. I don't think he's figured out a proper regular line up.
CC:Torre
@Gnomes...I guess you are right for the most part. I prefer CC in the 1 hole and Puig batting 2. I think the rest of my opinion as far as the line-up is highly influenced by the last 4 games and the fact that I am in one pissy assed mood. :(
Damn took me five minutes to write that comment. Damn bong.
^ cc: Spank
think Nadal, karen and all will be well.
@spank: you need a new telegraph machine
Thanks Spank. Found out today I have to have surgery on my arm a week from tomorrow and in between that freaking me out and the last few games, my inner bitch is very much in the house tonight!
Slick Ricky!
start this damn game please
Uh, they did, Sax.
Puig to third!! Atta boy, Yasiel!!
Puig leadoff triple!
Comebacker triple!
Oh good, minor league call-up ump.
I got a feeling we're gonna strand Puig.
Crawford Ks looking, and jaws about it. Hanley pops out to first in foul territory. Two out.
A-Gon Ks. Shit.
AGon growing a playoff beard? Dig it!
This is not auguring well. Feels like May again.
We leave Puig at third. Saxy has the ESP working tonight.
Nice second inning there, Ricky
ANDRE gets back in the swing of things!
1-0 LA
@karen: I may have the ESP working but I don't have the ESPN working tonight
Dre goes yard!! My shitty mood is improving already.
Uribe with a back-to-back HR!
2-0 LA
More ESP: I predict Mellis will not hit a HR here.
(though that would be awesome)
Well Saxy, whatever voodoo you've got going tonight, focus the bad juju on the Shitbags.
@Gnomes: you know, your GT graphic has red over blue. fitting.
Mellis 4-3 grounder
@karen, I haven't asked lately, how are things? you ok?
@Saxy...I'm getting better and better as this game goes on. Thanks for asking!! :) :) :)
puig launches it to right, but not far enough.
2-0 through 2.
Gotta run, kiddies. Back soon
Beautiful play by Uribe to get Eaton.
Orale, ya'll.
Just in time to see A-Gon hit his 20th of the season!
AGone!! One of the things I was feeling bitchy about was Mattingly swapping AGone and HanRam in the 3 and 4 spots. Could this possibly be why he gets the big bucks and I'm relegated to the peanut gallery?? Hmmm....
My guess for tonight's attendance: 51,226
Delgado chased. 5-0 LA
Well Gibby...See what happens when you leave the good guys and worm your way over to the dark side?
@Cliff B...I love your avatar. Is that your pup??
@Karen: No, he's just one of the pups who showed up at Bark in the Park. Not even my picture either, I think it was on the Dodger website...I just loved the image. :)
Cliff...You and me both!
Puig looks like he's running well.
Shake it off Ricky, you still have them by the short hairs.
Homeruns for everybody!
4 games coming up with the gnats. We all know that they have no other reason to play other then to screw with the Dodgers.
Suck it, Reggie Jackson! Uribe with number three!!!
I can't help but wonder about the etymology of "Marching and Chowder Society."
Number 3 for Uribe and a curtain call to boot. I'm finally beginning to believe that he's peeled of the damn gnat jersey he wore under his Dodgers uni.
I am hammered on Bourbon Street right now, so I must be totally out of my mind to think that Uribe just hit his third HR of the evening. AmIwrong?
Dreaming Uribe hit 3 hrs. Don't want to wake up
@DB...Urright.
golden showers for everyone!
#feastmode
#urib3
Uribe's all over the damn place tonight.
Hiram Bocachica. One of the better names in club history.
7-1! Wow
@Dusty: Uribe did indeed get his first career three-HR game tonight. Incredible.
7-1 LA through 6.5. 6.2 IP for Nolasco, great job Ricky!
Crawford, 0-for-4 now
HanRam badly fooled on that change, 1-1
Now 2-1 count
Ramirez works the walk
A-Gon belts a double to center. Second and third with one out.
Uribe coming up with two RISP and two out, and Gibby goes to the pen. Here we go.
Good to see Shawn Green in the house.
Shawn Green is in the house (he threw out the first pitch)
Uribe vs. Heath Bell, the beefiest match-up of the night!
No HR but Uribe actually beat out a 5-3 grounder! RBI, now 8-1
And Beefpile makes the comment too!
Ellis ducks on a pitch that wasn't that close. Afraid of Gibby throwing at him, I'm guessing.
Giants tie the Rockies at 2 in the eighth
Mellis Ks.
8-1 through seven.
Wow this has been a good game.
Keck Medical Center of USC is advertising here alongside Carl's Jr and Chevrolet.
Okay then.
SVS sighting
Puig in scoring position through the WP
He was safe. Got rung up simply for being a jerk. Should have stopped at third, kid.
Ball bobbles in right field but Puig thrown out at the plate for the third out.
Oh well. 8-1 through eight.
Cliff, you're right: Puig was safe at home. Ump missed the call.
Oh well.
Tap Room No 21 Pale Ale: not that good. Don't be fooled by the supermarket sale prices.
Magic number down to 8. 6 homers by the Dodgers. Ricky pitches another beauty. 4 game losing streak kaput. Dodgers kick ShitBags ass.
Lots of reasons to make huge party!!
