(Dammit, I'm not sure why this didn't post at 9a as intended. My bad. -Sax)
Bless that Franklin Stubbster. The SoSG one, that is.
It's been a cold, dark offseason for Sax here, really not wanting to engage in reading most Dodgers news given the oppressive shadow of Frank McCourt, his long protracted separation from the Dodgers' organization, and his grubby little fingers all over the parking lots of Chavez Ravine. I read great news about Clayton Kershaw and Matt Kemp--even potential 2012 batting champion James Loney--and I'm still finding it hard to get fired up for the 2012 season.
That is, until Senor Stubbs here launched yesterday's Game Thread.
Game Threads are back! Game Threads are back! Suddenly, there was something else to do at work (besides work, that is)! There was joy in Mudville! There were even happy thoughts listening to Charley and Rick calling the game on my new mlb.com At Bat app (only $15 for multiple devices this year, finally). Okay, so I got frustrated at Steiner / Monday again when I couldn't tell what was happening in the game itself, but still. It was something. It was the start.
It was hope. A New Hope, if you will.
The Dodgers took yesterday's game against the White Sox 6-4 and now sit squarely at top of the Cactus League standings (actually, they're up there with five other undefeated teams, two of which whom have two wins under their belts. But who's counting?). And today, the Dodgers take on the hated Giants. Baked Zito vs. Ted Lilly (who may also be baked, as far as I know)!
It's on, boys!

Is it time to hateHateHATE yet?
Yes!
And I will be listening to this one on Gameday...
Except, my nPower League One team is playing at the same time! Curse you, scheduling gods!
And Lilly's no-homer streak is over.
Not good, my L1 team is down 1-nil after 21'
Bean the mofo!
Two batters, two XBH off of Lilly
Yeah, this is going great.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
1-0 Giants with a man on second and none out in the first
burriss hit his ball past "a diving Juan uribe". I think I felt the aftershocks here in LA
We got an out!!!!!
Lilly still hasn't gotten a swing and a miss. Everything has been foul tipped.
That homerless streak lasted 2 whole batters.
BOOOOOO Lilly!
A swing and a miss!
Jason: actually, Ted Lilly gave up a HR to the first batter,...
...and he just gave up another HR.
3-0 Giants, and we only have one out in the first.
Luckily, we've got Kuroda as our #2, right?
Right?
Lilly gets out of the first with only a slash-line-against of .500/.571/1.667!
@Sax - I caught that. The first homerless streak lasted 0 batters. The second, 2 batters.
Oops...
Gordon - 6
Elly - 4
Kemp - 8
Rivera - 7
Ethier - 9
Sands - 3
Urine - 5
May - 2
Other Jr. - DH
Dee singles to first. Damn.
Mark Ellis was assigned Carroll's jersey number to confuse us.
Lilly has a 27.00 ERA
Lineup: GEKRE SUMO
And Kemp Ks swinging.
preseason Zito > preseason Lilly
@Jason: oh, I get it. So how long is Lilly's current homerless streak?
WTF is up with the Dow today
Greece, you'd better do the right thing and ratify this damn debt accord
Rivera, just try to get some timing please in your swing
Dodgers down by 3, and the Cactus League Championship hopes start evaporating.
Wait, were the Dodgers on AM 570 last year? I forget...
Radio ad says "new home of the dodgers". Huh?
@Sax - 5 currently, but barely.
Lead off single off of Lilly
But Lilly's a gamer, so we've got that.
By the way, Charley miscalled the second Giants HR in the first; a first he sounded like it was a lazy pop to Rivera
Can't tell if you're serious with the 570 question.
Anyone else looking at the Gameday layout on At Bat? Is that the actual Camelback outfield view? Or "Generic stadium?"
He also miscalled the flyout to left in the 2nd. That ball was caught about a foot in front of the wall but Charley made it sound like yet another lazy pop up.
Uribe and Sands both look stiff and, possibly, hungover out there today. Uribe at least has the excuse that he is Juan Uribe but what's Jerry's excuse?
Off the glove of Uribe, scoring another Giants run
"Difficult for Uribe to reach across the body", says Monday.
NO SHIT
Put a turkey leg between third and short.
No, wait...then Pablo Sandwich will get more triples.
@nomo: I've got a post on the at bat stadium going up shortly
I hope
Meanwhile, I am serious about am570. It is seriously all a blur. Werent we on am570 last year?
There is a big blue ball right behind the mount. Did they start making team-colored rosin bags?
^ Er... mound. That may be the Freudian slip of the season.
5-0 Giants through 1.5
At least we've established that Ted Lilly is awful. And so is Uribe.
@jason: +1
'Dre bomb
Aha, AM570 IS new. Ok, I'm not going crazy.
Charley called the Ethier ball correctly!
Fans cheering!
Yay!
Dre's home run trip around the bases can best be described as a prance.
We were on 790, the Lakers were on 570 the previous year.
Hey, Lilly went through a who,e inning there without giving up a HR
Urine with a hit!
Audio is not ludicrously behind Gameday.
The Lakers were last on 570 in 2009.
I haven't been listening closely. Anyone keeping a "Lookin' to hook on" count?
Gameday says Jamey Wright has pitched to three batters, but he's only thrown three pitches. Damn Spring Training glitches.
"Treanor is an excellent defensive catcher...and he throws the ball away."
"Treanor is an excellent defensive catcher"
When did this happen?
Mellis double!
All catchers who can't hit for shit are "excellent defensive catchers", and "Ability to call a good game" is inversely proportional to OPS.
Holy crap! A Belly appearance!
No help for Mellis?
I think Charlie just stroked out trying to say "Emmanuel Burriss." It came out "Er-my-el Briss."
The offense is in midseason form, I see.
I thought they scrapped poor Tron for parts.
It's all part of a diabolical plan to convince Gnat fans that Melky is some kind of savior.
I don't think anyone should take anything named "Melky" seriously.
We have a Lance Zawadzki?
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ahhh, spring training.
A win is a win, but a loss doesn't count.
I do love this, from the box score:
Fielding
E: Fields (1, fielding)
@Jason, it's good to have you back my friend...
Lilly looked great today!
(pre-cries)
Wait, Urine got a hit today? Or he got hit?
Ted Lilly looked like Ted Mosby out there
He looked like Ted Knight.
I was thinking Ted Theodore Logan.
Which one was Keanu? I don't remember...
Keanu was not Bill S. Preston, Esq.
