Baseball is HERE! Thank the gods!
While I have my fair share of trepidation regarding the upcoming season and the pending change of ownership, there are REAL, LIVE GAMES being played, and that is the best news I've heard in a while.
The Dodgers match up with their Camelback Ranch cohabitants for the inaugural game of 2012 Spring Training today. This will also be the first game in quite a while that someone other than Ozzie Guillen will be signing the lineup card for the Sox. We wish nothing but the best of luck to Robin Ventura in the upcoming season. I liked him as a Dodger, and I like him now.
That said, we here in LA are hoping to break him into his managerial career with an appropriate beat-down*.

Yeah, that still feels a little weird.
At Bat phone app shortcut relocated to home screen.
Let's get it on!
Gordon - 6
Ellis - 4
Kemp - 8
Ethier - 9
Rivera - 7
Loney - 3
Kennedy - 5
Ellis - 2
Gwynn - DH
That felt good.
We're going to need a way to differentiate between the light hitting white 2B named Ellis from the light hitting white C named Ellis. M and AJ just aren't going to cut it from a humor perspective.
I'm sure one of them will get a deserving derisive nickname in short order.
My money's on Mark.
Let's go with Mellis and Ajellis for now.
In the spirit of the great Belisario/Belliard debacle, Elly and Elly2?
Only if we then get to call Sellers Selly to confound anyone that stumbles across this blog.
Approved.
Selly/Elly/Elly2 with a possible guest appearance by Ely when a spot starter is needed.
Did they have Gameday for Spring Training last year? I think I would have remembered those weak-ass clouds.
I don't recall the clouds either. It may have still been the low-res Gameday from 2010 until opening day last season.
I am strangely excited to hear Steiner's first "lazy popup to the right side... AND IT'S GONE!" call of the year.
There is now a "Badges" tab in the Gameday right navigation area.
Alas, no badges today.
Steiner and Monday. Like the first robin of spring... crapping on your car.
Or, "Hit to left and deep! It is...caught behind third."
Or dead silence. He does that too on big plays.
Actually, apart from the little things they do that irritate me, I like them just fine. I tease because I love.
Clearly Rick Monday is under orders to emphasize that Elly is a "contact hitter."
Gameday went from being a full minute behind the online audio broadcast to being about 30 seconds ahead.
Loney is an RBI god. I trust my eyes, not silly math.
Wait, so now I have to install at bat on top of at bat 11? Seems stupid t me.
If history is any guide, MLB will kill At Bat 11 so you have to shell out again every year.
Sadly.
@Sax: You had to last year too. The difference this year is that At Bat 12 is by default the lite version. Then you pay $14.99 to unlock the full version. Or if you have MLB.tv, you just log in and the full version is unlocked.
I think you only have to pay the $14.99 once and it covers both iPhone and iPad. At least, I hope so.
Yes! It appears you're right Nomo--one price, both devices. Whoo hoo!!!
Dodgers up 1-0 in T4
Orioles have a pitcher whose name backwards is a five-letter word (Strop)
Oh wait, now I'm listening to charley and Rick again
(cries)
Kemp is out. End of thread.
Loney is still slow.
Nestor Molina knows the importance of making a first impression.
We batted for the cycle this inning. In order, even!
B-Squad gettin' it done!
Ledezma is going to be this year's Ramon Ortiz. I can smell it.
I'd describe it as the smell of burnt waffles.
...with just a hint of steamed cauliflower.
I've always imagined an Ortiz smells like singed maple and scorched cow hide.
You would think so, but it has to mature first. It only develops that odor after the games start to count.
One of the great pleasures of preseason Gameday is perusing the headshots.
Scott Rice looks like he got kicked in the nuts immediately before they snapped his photo.
Angel Guzman must have a tiny head to justify his miniature picture.
Adam Kennedy looks exactly like my high school chemistry teacher.
Juan Rivera still looks like a serial killer.
It now appears they are using Loney's mug shot from his off-season "traffic accident." Too soon?
I think Jeff Baisley is also an actor on Grey's Anatomy.
One more ou... DAMMIT!
We make party!
Preseason party, it is!
Wait, for the record, I wholeheartedly endorse violence.
Woo hoo. Dodgers win! Can this be the year we win the Cactus League title?
"Can this be the year we win the Cactus League title?"
That's rich, DBT.
this new blogger commenting interface is kinda weak sauce.
i wonder how many comments it can hold before it has to roll to another page. 200, again?
It really is weak sauce.
I haven't checked whether or not it is more mobile friendly, though, in which case I might change my tune.
But yeah, all the white space. Blech. They could at least be putting ads that we'll never click on and that only vaguely appeal to us along the side.
Actually, the text box moving to the bottom of the thread in a narrow window is a feature I can live with. Less pesky scrolling.
What? Do you mean the text box on the right? That stays up top for me, even as I'm scrolling down to read comments down the left side...
Sax,
If you narrow the window, it jumps to the bottom, at least on Firefox 10.
No such luck on iPad. Can't speak for iPhone.
Holy hell, Stubbs! This is going to revolutionize Assassins' Circle/Water Polo.
Improves stealth commenting capabilities, too.
