It's Time For Very Generic, Times New Roman-Like Banner Fonts

Nothing says excitement like a serifed font.

Yawn.

(Clearly, the Dodgers have cut payroll in the graphics department. At least they're still a half-step above the Clippers, though!)

Not even an exclamation point. "Yes, it is indeed time for Dodger Baseball. Please share in our excitement."

They should play a clip of Vin saying it when you hover the cursor over the banner.

"It's time for Dodger baseball. So take a nap for a couple of hours and check in later. If the pitching has held up, the last couple of innings might be nice."

Holy crap! Our Dusty Baker (and/or Dusty Baker's Toothpick) has to get THIS! (Image from TBLA.)

"There's a new serif in town."
BOOM!

It's actually a font called Eames from type foundry House Industries, and it's well respected inside the graphic design industry. It's a type style that is meant to evoke mid-century design style, which makes sense for the Dodgers as much of LA's architecture is in this style and the Dodgers moved to to LA during that period.

The use on the website is pretty uninspired, but the cookie cutter MLB sites don't really allow for doing much else.

Very nice!

What Stephen said... I'm not crazy about it on the banner but the other uses of it have been great. Understated and classic. Especially with the throwback circle logo. Reminds me of Dodgers ads that would have come from the fictional ad men at Sterling Cooper Draper Price.

@Stephen Caver: Assuming you're this Stephen Caver, I take it you know your fonts. I'm not Eames hating. It just looks really boring, juxtaposed against some of the more modern buildings of the blue LA night skyline.

Maybe it's the ending period that connotes sedation. I think it needs an exclamation point, or even quotation marks (to evoke Vin).

And while we're at it...any chance we can get you to help us upgrade our look here at SoSG?

@Sax upgrade our look? I am imagining the scene from European Vacation where the Griswolds are trying on the 80s Italian fashions. I think Neeebs would look good in a yellow leather suit

I can hear the Dr John song playing now...

Wait, you guys AREN'T wearing yellow leather suits? I thought that was our dress code!

@Steve Sax: I am that Stephen, yes.

Not denying it looks uninspired on the website. I'm betting it looks classy in other promotional materials, though. Personally, in that context, I would've gone for the italic face as it's more dynamic.

I might be willing to pitch in. Shoot me an email from the contact form on the website. :)
