It Could Be Worse: We Could Be Cubs Fans

The story today about yet another scuffle in the Cubs' dugout helped take my mind off Scott Elbert's disastrous outing today against the woeful Royals (five batters seen, four batters walked). And the story also reminded me of a conversation my friend had with his five-year-old son, who is being raised as a Cubs fan and is just learning the intricacies and wonders of the game of baseball:

KID: Dad, how come there hasn't been a lot of baseball on TV lately?

DAD: Well, son, there's actually a really good reason for that...

KID: Is it because the Cubs suck?

Ouch.

POSTSCRIPT 4:21p: Also on ESPN, apparently the Cubs are riveted by the Charlie Sheen drama. This is NEWS? This merits mention on a baseball site? Oh, wait a second.

Am I the only one who's noticed Eldred never had good control when facing major league batters.

Or the Royals.

Thank you.

Glorida Allred throws a wicked breaking ball.

Children really do see things so much more clearly than adults.

The written dialogue doesn't do the conversation justice. It's all in the

delivery.

Eldrick Woods could throw more than just one strike.

This is a promising start. Definitely, think they will be able to compete with the Pirates for last in the NL Central.

They just pushed WGN America to the local Time Warner Cable. WGN has the same shitty shows that are on the local WB/My9/etc and the same crappy basball that's on SNY, but it also means I get to see the Dodgers an additional 6 times a year
