STGT: vs. Royals, 1p

Joe Torre shows Don Newcombe some love.

Manny feels pretty, oh so pretty.

Ronnie Belliard and Chin-lung Hu play hot cross bats.

RBI men.

Is Blake DeWitt sliding into the starting 2B job?

From Dodgers.com:

Vicente Padilla, just announced as the Dodgers' Opening Day starter, gets a tuneup start on Friday at 1:05 PT against the Royals at Camelback Ranch-Glendale. Padilla has pitched well this spring, despite revealing on Thursday that he has dealt with some forearm stiffness, as he did last spring with Texas. Jeff Weaver, who will probably retain his job from last year as swing man, is also scheduled to pitch.

Padilla homers today. Book it.

I can't see Manny now without thinking of Psycho Mike of the Kevin & Bean Show's impression of him.

Sadly, I can't find a link to audio of just the impression. It's in the Podcast for the March 24th episode, though.

@Josh - Hey pretty lady! I'm Manny Ramirez of the Los Angeles Doehers! I have a horn! {honk honk}

Josh S. said...

It makes my head sizzle!

Just older Psycho Mike archive, but there is still some Manny in there...

The BEE EYE PEE Tickess ad really brought a new dimension to the impression.

Still scoreless

Say it with me, Charley:

"Mon-a-ster-i-os".

Not Montaserios and not Montasterios.

Josh S. said...

"Naga... Naga... Naga... Not gonna work here anymore, anyway."

Dodgers on the board! Kemp EBI single, 1-0

Fuuuuudge! I forgot this mother was on the telly. I remembered, however, that I have beer, pizza, and the day off.

So here I be.

Dre getting a little fiesty with the homeplate ump. And with good reason it appeared at first glance.

I just realized I'm going to be off Opening Day. I'm giddy.

Dusty Baker said...

Manny has left the Yard.

Josh S. said...

Dangit. I missed the Manny homer.

"LEG KICK, BALANCE, LEG KICK, BALANCE, LEG KICK, BALANCE..."

Jeez, are these two yahoos more annoying than usual this season?
(I say this as someone who normally likes Rick Monday.)

Dusty Baker said...

3-1 Blue guys. Little nubber by Ellis scores DeWitt.

Dusty Baker said...

I like Monday a lot (the former Dodger and broadcaster, not the day after Sunday). But put him - or anyone - with Steiner, and they sound like those 9-year-olds on the junior Dodger broadcast on Sunday night home games.

Josh S. said...

Just to be clear, I made my Padilla homer prediction before I knew Greinke was pitching.

Dusty Baker said...

And by Padilla, you meant Manny.

Josh S. said...

OK, they have GOT to fix the audio delay on At Bat.

I'm seeing the plays pop up on the summary WITHIN THE APP a full minute before I hear them. Ugh.

Josh S. said...

"Billy Butler, not to be confused with Billy Buckner."

We wouldn't do that Charley, because we're not you.

Jason said...

@Josh - stupid stat of the day: by my calculations, Greinke allows a HR on 1.8% of all balls put into play. Padilla on the other hand sits at a more robust 3.4%. Kershaw is a svelte 1.7%.

Dusty Baker said...

Yeah that was really some news we could use from Steiner, wasn't it? Don't confuse one guy with one name with another guy who has a similar yet distinct name.

No words as to whether or not it's ok for me to confuse either with them with Bill Buckner.

Jason said...

Or Brent Butler

Dusty Baker said...

I'm very clear on Buddy Bell.

Jason said...

What about former Dodger (err... Bridegroom) catcher Buster Burrell? Don't want to confuse him with a member of the Butler clan.

Dusty Baker said...

Damn, that was random, Jason. Nice!

I'll take "Famous Superbas whose forst and last names both began with B..."

Dusty Baker said...

^first

Jason said...

Bill Bergan, also a catcher. Played on a Superbas team with one Bull Durham.

Dusty Baker said...

It's a damn shame Bull Durham didn't have the common decency to have a last name that began with a "B."

Josh S. said...

Which one played Glinda the Good Witch?

Josh S. said...

Wait. What happened there?

"Swung on and missed strike three!"
(A minute or two of babbling about the Hawaiian kid's name.)
*something happens*
*Cheering*
"And THAT will do it."

Josh S. said...

Charley mixed his Indiana Jones metaphors a few moments ago.

Jason said...

Bull Durham was the kind of pitcher that makes me believe I still have a shot... 29 IP over 9 games (2 starts) in a 4 year career in his early 30s - 6 K, 12 BB, 5.28 ERA, 2-0 record. He also had 1 career hit, a single. I wish there were radar guns back in the 19-aughts so I could compare his arm to mine.
