STGT: 12:05p vs. Reds

Here it is, your bare-bones spring training game thread. I think Aroldis is pitching.

UPDATE 11:28a (Sax): Dodgers go with Clayton Kershaw, followed by Monasterios, Broxton, Sherrill, and Ayala. Reds start Bronson Arroyo and also have Chapman somewhere in the mix.

Tweet from Tommy Lasorda:

"Today we take on the Reds at 1:05. When I managed I hated the Reds, I hated the color red, and made my players hate the Reds."

Bless our godfather.

Ellis DH? Donnie Baseball is wacky.

Is there are reason that I missed for why GA hasn't played yet?

@Josh S.

I think we meant "Is there A reason...".

I knew that looked weird.

Steve Sax said...

Let's see a 3-for-3 day (with 1BB) for Furcal!

Kyle Baker said...

In other news, bus service from Union Station to Chavez Ravine has been reinstated for this season, and Carne Asada Sundays are back as well.

Steve Sax said...

@Josh S: Who is "we", exactly?

Kyle Baker said...

@Sax

The "S." in "Josh S." is for "Sybil."

Josh S. said...

@Sax: Me, myself, and I.

I really need to stop talking to myself.

I agree.

Kyle Baker said...

MLB The Show ads on MLB Network already getting under my skin.

Reminds me of "Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm schizophrenic, and so am I."

Kyle Baker said...

@ Josh - De La Soul reference on purpose, or just serendipitous?

Kyle Baker said...

Reminds me of an old soccer chant. Andy Goram was the Rangers keeper some years back and had been diagnosed with schizophrenia. Celtic fans made a play on the old "There's only one [favorite player]" chant, singing to Goram: "Two Andy Gorams, there's only two Andy Gorams."

Dusty, I'll never get tired of Playstation Guy mocking the skills of The Show's cover boys (Pedroia last year, Mauer this year.) Now, if Kemp or Ethier is the 2011 cover boy, I might take issue with it.

@Josh

If you're at work, ignore this. If you're trying to tune in to the game from home, note that the channels are f'd up and the game is on 738 not 767 as noted in the channel lineup. Just yelled at Charter for awhile about this.

Kyle Baker said...

Nice throw from Repko for the out at the plate!

Josh S. said...

Dusty, I'm yelling at Charter for a laundry list of other reasons.

-They are still fighting the city of Glendale, so no lineup change yet. (Meaning no PT HD.)
-For over a week, my HD channels have been randomly conking out for no reason.
-I just had my second Moxi box die (complete with smoke!) last month.
-When the guy came to replace it, HE DIDN'T HAVE ONE. He spent an hour calling around to find another tech that had one.
-He ended up telling me that they don't buy any new boxes, they just keep refurbishing the old ones.

So yeah, F them. I'm leaning heavily toward U-Verse, even if they don't have MLBNet.

(Oh my God, why don't you start a Charter cable blog and talk about Charter cable news on that blog?!)

I guess I sound like a spoiled little bitch, then.

I was able to get through _War and Peace_ in the time that Ayala pitch hung there for Gomes to yank out.

Josh S. said...

Both the At Bat and MLB.com box scores are honked up. Gomes hit a 2-run HR, but the score is 0-0.

Kyle Baker said...

They started the game at -2 due to some unpaid parking fines.

Josh S. said...

LOL! "Me, Myself, and I" is playing at Camelback right now.

Kyle Baker said...

That's rich, Josh.

3-6-3 DP. Eye Chart solid with the glove.

Josh S. said...

I know Steiner misspoke, but he just said Jamey Carroll is in Japan.

I now have this image in my head of him getting on the wrong plane and having a Home Alone 2 style adventure in Tokyo.

Josh S. said...

OK, let's see if Chapman is perfect or if he has any defects.

Kyle Baker said...

He's hanging out with a strange pigeon lady in Tokyo.

Wesley Vento said...

all of chapman's stuff looks up. he's pretty wild today.

Josh S. said...

Monasteri0.00s!

Steve Sax said...

The Dodgers have six hits and no runs through seven. And Furcal ended up 1-for-3, not the 3-for-3 for which I'd hoped.

Ethier, Kemp, Blake and Repko, a combined 0-for-10.

At least Clayton had a solid three innings with 3 Ks, 2 H, and 0 R.

Steve Sax said...

Here comes our big eighth-inning rally

Kyle Baker said...

"Dude, we went fishing in Cabo."

*shoots self*

Kyle Baker said...

You mean ninth, right Sax?

Josh S. said...

Weird At Bat thing I discovered today. If you hit pause while it's playing in Safari, it actually does pause the game.

That could either come in handy or be really annoying.

Steve Sax said...

Monasterios, three innings of no-run, one-hit ball! 0.00 still!

Now about those moribund Dodger bats...

Josh S. said...

Maybe they should let pitchers hit in Spring Training. We could get our team batting average up.

Oh wait, we don't have Randy Wolf anymore.

Steve Sax said...

I don't have mlb.tv and since there isn't gameday--can someone tell me what's going on?

Steve Sax said...

Oh, I'm gleaning it's over, since Charley and Rick are just shooting the bull.

Dodgers lose, 3-2.

Kyle Baker said...

I'm really needing a win at this point, or at least some ferocious offense. Forget that it's ST - I'm HUNGRY!

Steve Sax said...

Dusty, we get another shot this evening. Pop back on at around 10p (8p for the GT launch).

Josh S. said...

@Sax

How does Charley and Rick shooting the bull indicate that the game is over?

Late night game thread? Sweet! It's like a slumber party. I'll bring the popcorn and Patrick Swayze movies.

I'll be back after dinner!
