While some SoSGers like to see the sunny side of life, others—like me!—can't help but focus on the storm clouds on the horizon. Here's what we have to look forward to, oh, about eight months from now. From Dodgers.com:
From Ramirez's point of a view, if he has another banner year, he can opt out of the contract and try free agency again next offseason, hoping that the economy stabilizes.
Ramirez has until November to decide whether to void the second season.
And from MLB Trade Rumors:
This was fun. We get to do it all over again after the season.
In other words: Before the year is done, Dodger fans are going to be pissed off again.
- SCENARIO 1: Manny has a great season. Manny opts out of the second year of his contract. Dodger fans clamor for more Manny. Enter Scott Boras. The negotiation circus begins anew.
- SCENARIO 2: Same as above, but Manny signs with another club.
- SCENARIO 3: Manny has an average to poor season. Manny stays. The Dodgers owe him $20 million for one more year, à la Andruw Jones.
Unless the Dodgers win the World Series, it's going to be deja vu all over again for Dodger fans this winter. Enjoy Manny while you can!
