Hypothetically Speaking...

Would you pay $9 million per year (for, say, 2 years) for the following stats?:

Per Year Average Stats, 2 yr/$18 million
AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BA OBP SLG
Mystery Outfielder 530 76 143 29 1 27 90 0.270 0.370 0.482

For the sake of facilitating your answer, let's say the player is a decent if unspectacular outfielder, and the Dodgers couldn't get Manny. And if you think you know who the Mystery Outfielder is or where those stats come from, do tell!

Is the mystery player worth $9 million/year?
Yes

But if it's Ken Griffey Jr. no way.

These numbers look pretty close to career average of Pat Burrell. Without any slumps or injuries during batting practice, I'd take him.

I'm not sure if the trade off of getting him, and then having to hear Dodger fans yell at him regarding his ex-girlfriend is really worth it...

Who's his ex-girlfriend and why would fans be yelling at him about her?

pat the bat

I'm not really sure, but when I was at game 5 NLCS in left field people kept yelling at him about his GF and them banging her, or something like that.

Burrell is not a decent outfielder, he is won of the worst. Needs to be a DH. Also he is too streaky. If not manny, we will probably not add an outfielder through free agency, we would go for a power bat at third.

The mystery outfielder isn't Burrell, but I do agree those stats look awfully similar

Oh, Bobby Abreu! That would be great - then we can learn in every broadcast that he is not related to Tony Abreu and that he is from Venezuela and Tony from the Dominican.

Not Bobby Abreu. It isn't a "traditional" player, so to speak. As with the puzzles, you'll have to think a bit outside the box (the salary isn't just an arbitrary number, by the way)

But actually I wouldn't use too many more brain cells trying to figure it out. I'll post the follow-up soon, hopefully tomorrow.

Something makes me want to think it was someone who we lost and that's why we have Juan Pierre, but those don't quite make for Jayson Werth numbers.

It's not Moises "handshake" Alou, is it?

Yes. But only if it's Milton Bradley.
