The Dodgers' 2008 promotional calendar just came out, and look at these highlights:
- Joe Torre and Takashi Saito each get bobbleheads. Torre's is not unexpected; Saito's is overdue. There's a secret third one that will probably be a fan vote (like last year); I'm pulling for Larry Bowa.
- LED lights at the March 29 Red Sox game at the Coliseum. Anyone else foresee a "lights out" moment written into the game script?
- April 15 gets the 50th Anniversary Blanket. In case Drew McCourt is reading, 2008 - 50 = 1958.
- May 11 is the aforementioned Lip Gloss giveaway. Can this year's shade at least be Dodger Blue (instead of Second Half Swoon Red)?
- July 27 is 50th Anniversary Autograph Day, where all fans can bring in their autographs from fifty years ago.
- August 3 is Dodger Build a Bear. No details are given about this event, but I'm guessing you can buy a Chan Ho Park doll and stuff it with a heart, or a Jason Schmidt doll and stuff it with a bursa sac, or a Tommy Lasorda doll and just stuff the hell out of it.
- August 15 is the Think Cure Radio Telethon. Please, please let Rick Monday host, so listeners will never know how much money was raised.
Thank you, Hermosa Beach! I'm here all week.

I hope the Bowa bobblehead has eyes that glow bright red when it gets angry (every 45 seconds). Every hour, the head could erupt off the top of the doll and bounce under your desk.
I saw the pre-production versions of the Bowa bobblehead. His non protective, non helmet head is dangling off his shoulders after being smacked in the head by a line drive.
The LA Times, over the weekend, had a subhead for Bowa that read "Bowa Feeling Constricted." Awesome pun.
I give Jon credit for that gag.
I thought I saw it in Friday's LAT, but whatever. You want to give Jon credit, I'm not going to asphyxiate you.
In regards to the LED lights being given to the first 100,000 fans attending Red Sox vs. Dodgers game Sat. Mar.29, 2008 at the Coliseum, it happens to be the same evening that people around the world will be taking part in "Earth Hour".
From WWF's site:
"Created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming."
"This simple act has captured the hearts and minds of people all over the world. As a result, at 8pm on 29 March 2008 millions of people in some of the world’s major cities, including Copenhagen, Toronto, Chicago, Melbourne, Brisbane, Tel Aviv and Manila will unite and switch off for Earth Hour."

The LED's will have the "Think Cure" logo on them, in the search of a cure for cancer. It would be so cool if the Dodgers also could include one minute(one hour might not go over too well) of darkness that evening to symbolize the need for action on global warming. I won't be expecting the lights to go out at 8pm that evening, but it would be very cool if they did! I'll be at the game - GO DODGERS!!
