Game 66 Thread: June 13 vs. Mets, 7.10p

Dodgers start Brad Penny, RHP (7-1, 2.26) vs. Jorge Sosa, RHP (6-1, 2.64).

Dodgers: 37-28 (T-1st place NL West, W2)
Mets: 36-27 (1st place AL East, 2.0 GA, L4)

From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:

Dodgers: Bouncing back from a lackluster performance at Pittsburgh, Penny was masterful on Friday night, as he limited the Toronto Blue Jays to a single run over 7 2/3 innings. Penny walked none and struck out seven, but he was denied a victory when Dodger closer Takashi Saito was unable to protect a 2-1 lead in the ninth. Penny is 3-10 lifetime against the Mets. It will be his first start against New York this season.

Mets: Sosa allowed no runs, three isolated singles, a double that Carlos Beltran might have caught and one walk over eight innings on Friday against the Tigers, a team on its way to at least 900 runs. He struck out five while picking up the win, his third straight.

COMMENTS:

  • It's the basement or the penthouse for the Dodgers these days, having moved from third to first place in one night. To paraphrase Charley Steiner, Just when you think you have this game figured out.... The Dodgers go for the heretofore unimaginable sweep of the Mets tonight, sending the dominating Brad Penny to the mound. Everything indicates the Dodgers can win tonight...which means they'll probably lose. Enjoy the game!
  • What, us negative?

Tonight's lineup, by way of Inside the Dodgers:

Furcal, SS
Pierre, CF
Garciaparra, 1B
Gonzalez, LF
Martin, C
Betemit, 3B
Kemp, RF
Abreu, 2B
Penny, P

Hang in there, Loney! We expect to see you in the lineup tomorrow.

"D Wright out stretching at second"? Did the Dodgers pull the hidden-ball trick?

Dodger bats...not exactly on fire. Must be waiting for the next back-to-back-to-back opportunity. 1-0 Mets after two.

Orel said...

"No no-no tonight!" says Tony Abreu.

Orel said...

This Betemit guy, maybe he can hit. And Furcal triples in Kemp. 2-1 good guys.

Pierre RBI! Nomar single! The world is ending!

Betemit + Kemp = Dodger offense

Abreu chips in with an RBI double! 6-1 Dodgers!

Wow, I should go out of the country more often. Logging in from Antwerp to find, amidst the Britney pictures, the Dodgers in the lead. Go Blue!

Furcal triples in the seventh! His second of the night! Who knew the Dodgers still had some whoopass left over from yesterday?

IBB to Nomar to get to Gonzo???

The Mets D has been horrible this series

Told ya so. 7-1 Blue.

Nice to have to shoe on the other hand for once.

Or something like that.

All right - WHAT GIVES WITH ALL FORMER DODGERS GETTING BOOED? It's f-ing ridiculous. Most players have little to no choice when they're shown the door. Even Philly fans show more class - and they boo Santa Claus and cheer season ending injuries.

Who are these guys? Let the kids play more often huh?

Loney's in! Too bad he won't get an at-bat.

Orel said...

Simple: If you're not with us, you're against us. Although I seem to remember Paul Lo Duca getting a standing ovation when he first returned as a visiting player.

Orel said...

Might also have to do with this.

Mets getting Wagner some work during a blowout. Ouch.

Loney with a 2 run HR off of Wagner

Hey Ned - here are your power bats, Kemp and Loney.

Ah! Ah! Ah! How wrong I was!

Nice sweep of the mets - I wish it were last year during the playoffs, but I'll take this one. Let the kids play more, huh. Go Blue!
