Dodgers start Brad Penny, RHP (7-1, 2.06) vs. Tom Gorzelanny, LHP (6-3, 2.39).
Dodgers: 32-23 (T-1st place NL West (with AZ and SD), L1)
Pirates: 24-31 (T-2nd place NL Central, 6.5 GB, W1)
From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:
Dodgers: Penny continued to outdo even his great start of last year, shutting out the Nationals on four hits over 6 1/3 innings. Penny continues to ration his energy more wisely than in year?s past, reaching back for extra velocity when he has two strikes, but pitching more to contact earlier in the counts and using his splitter more. He hasn't allowed a home run all season.Pirates: Gorzelanny showed no ill-effects from the bruised thumb he suffered against the Cardinals, but got off to a rocky start his last time out. The left-hander needed 33 pitches to get out of the first inning, but settled down and allowed only one run in seven strong innings in the Pirates 4-1 win over San Diego.
Morning baseball! Let's play ball and get a win, Blue!

So much for that awesome ERA. Penny has given up four through five. Meanwhile the Dodgers' offense is still asleep. Too many Primani sandwiches last night?
Ethier takes Torres deep after a Martin hit to take the lead 5-4
NL West update: SD 7, WAS 3 (8th); PHI 8, SF 7 (8th); CIN 2, COL 1 (4th); AZ 4, NYM 1 (final)

What happened to Saito? Why did he leave so early?
Big win for the Dodgers.
It looks like he injured his groin on a pitch.
