Dodgers start Hong-Chih Kuo, LHP (0-0, 15.43) vs. Ian Snell, RHP (4-4, 3.14).
Dodgers: 32-22 (1st place NL West 0.5 GA, W1)
Pirates: 23-31 (3rd place NL Central, 7.5 GB, L3)
From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:
Dodgers: It isn't yet official, but manager Grady Little is leaning toward Kuo to replace fifth starter Brett Tomko, at least for this one start against the Pirates. Kuo was the favorite for that job in Spring Training, but strained his shoulder and Tomko won the job. Kuo has been spotty since returning, both at Triple-A Las Vegas and particularly in two relief appearances for the Dodgers. But Little is intrigued by the hard-throwing left-hander as a starter.Pirates: Snell found himself on the losing side of a shutout in his last start, though his solid effort showed resiliency -- he had been roughed up in his previous outing. Snell has been a reliable starter for the Pirates, giving them quality starts and going deep into games all season. In seven of his 12 outings, Snell has made it through the seventh. He pitched against the Dodgers back in April and picked up a no-decision, tossing seven innings and allowing two runs.
From Inside the Dodgers, a little number we like to call "lineup":
Pierre, CF
Furcal, SS
Nomar, 1B
Kent, 2B
Gonzo, LF
Lieberthal, C
Ethier, RF
Abreu, 3B
Kuo, P

Where is everybody? We're in the fifth and HCK has already thrown 93 pitches. He's always seemed to have control problems but at least he's kept it close to this point. 2-1 Pirates.
Ian has done a Snellar job of shutting the Dodger bats down so far. 7th inning, 3-1 Pirates.
Atleast Abreu looked good tonight
Somewhere, Jim Tracy is smiling. Probably in Pittsburgh.
Wonderful, we're back to the three-team logjam atop the NL West.
