Game 60 Thread: June 7 @ Padres, 7.05p

Dodgers start Hong-Chih Kuo, LHP (0-1, 7.71) vs. Jake Peavy, RHP (7-1, 1.68).

Dodgers: 34-25 (3rd place NL West, 1.5 GB, L2)
Padres: 35-23 (T-1st place NL West, W4)

From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:

Dodgers: Kuo pitched a variety of games in his debut. He was all over the place in a two-run first inning, but after the Pirates ran themselves out of that frame the lefty settled down, only to run out of gas with an excessive pitch count and couldn't make it out of the fifth inning. That said, he kept his team close and showed glimpses of his best from last year.

Padres: Peavy wasn’ nearly as dominant in his last start on June 1 as he was in May, as he allowed three runs on 10 hits over seven innings, although he pitched much better as the game wore on, retiring eight of the final 10 batters he faced. Peavy struck out seven and walked one as his ERA went from 1.47 to 1.68.

COMMENTS:

  • We're going to get swept. There's really no way around this one, as the inconsistent Kuo goes up against Jake "I own the league, especially the Dodgers" Peavy. Just hope nobody gets hurt and regroup for tomorrow.
  • What, us negative?

From Inside the Dodgers, the lineup:

Furcal, SS
Abreu, 3B
Nomar, 1B
Kent, 2B
Gonzo, LF
Vote for Martin, C
Ethier, RF
Clark, CF
Kuo, P

I agree, we're going to get swept. 2.5 games back in the NL West and sucking fast...

Actually i hope pierre and nomar get hurt

slava014 said...

That's weird, Pierre never gets the day off. Oh well, I like to see Abreu batting 2nd. Now all we need is for Martin to move up.

slava014 said...

I wouldn't be bad if Gonzo got hurt either.

Peavy retires the dodgers on 10 pitches.

Kuo throws 6 balls before throwing his first strike.

Steve Sax said...

Kuo's error puts two in scoring position with 1 out. He Ks Bard, then Ks Cameron to escape the first.

Steve Sax said...

Kent swings on the first damn pitch and grounds out

Sax your play-by-play updates are faster than Gamecast's

Hong-Chih Kuo walks the tightrope.

Steve Sax said...

EK, many call said play-by-play "the joy of Sax."

Steve Sax said...

So much for that lead. Peavy doubles? Lame.

Steve Sax said...

Can't somebody hit the damn ball?!?! (On the Dodgers.)

Damon said...

Kuo looking pretty good

Steve Sax said...

Tied at one through five full.
Now maybe the dodgers can get a damn extra-base hit...

Steve Sax said...

1) Someone please tell jeff kent this is a contract year.

2) Someone please tell Luis Gonzalez to stop swinging at the first f'n pitch.

Eddie Murray needs to teach patience. Someone should have eddie learn from yoda.

Why are the dodgers going to seanez in all of these tough situations? Where's bills?

slava014 said...

Finally, the dodgers are doing the right thing. Remove Seanez from the bullpen and put in bills. Grady Little must be reading this blog.

Steve Sax said...

Furcal comes through! 3-1 dodgers.

With men on second and third, peavy should have walked furcal to get to abreu...bad call.

Steve Sax said...

Whoops, Abreu doubles in Furcal. My bad.

Dodgers 4-1, peavy officially knocked out of the game in the 7th.

Steve Sax said...

This game aint lookin' too bad in KCAL HD. You hear that, FSN??!! H F'N D!!!

(50 games, big deal.)

Steve Sax said...

Nomar, no surprise, grounds out. 4-1 dodgers.

Free James Loney!

slava014 said...

I am thinking about taking the vote nomar pin from last year and making it into a trade nomar one.

Steve Sax said...

Bills Ks two in the seventh, 4-1 dodgers, on to the eighth.

Steve Sax said...

Sf and az tied at 4 and going to extras.

Kent looks pathetic for the first out in the eighth, an awful K.

Steve Sax said...

Where did gonzo's power come from? Hr to deep center, 5-1 dodgers.

slava014 said...

Why does Gonzalez always have to hit a HR when it is looking like he is going into a slump? Now Matt Kemp will be at AAA twice as long.

Steve Sax said...

Gonzo makes way for Slappy Pierre in center. Guess grady was only giving Juan some of the night off.

Bard opens up the eighth with a single off Bills. Dodgers' line, 5-8-1; Pads' line, 1-4-0.

Steve Sax said...

Bills Ks Cameron for the first out and his 3rd K tonight. Man on first.

Steve Sax said...

Slavs, want to start a "free matt kemp" campaign?

With two down, here comes Beimel in relief, replacing Bills.

Steve Sax said...

Sweeeeeeeet barehand play by abreu to nail the runner at first. On to the 9th.

Okay, I know Abreu is still learning, but we can ditch Betemit now.

Steve Sax said...

On to the bottom of the ninth! Brox to enter in a non-save situation...why???

Steve Sax said...

Bases juiced with none out against Broxton. Well it's a save situation now!

If brox denies Kuo a win, it will be a mortal sin.

Steve Sax said...

I'd say Broxton walks a tightrope, but it wouldn't hold his weight.

Where is Saito when we need him...

Steve Sax said...

We suck. We suck. We suck.

Grady is a fool. His poor use of relievers cost us the game.

Damon said...

free james loney

Steve Sax said...

Broxton SUCKS!

Worst loss of the year, bar none.

slava014 said...

Absolutely Pathetic!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve Sax said...

I hate Grady. He sucks.

Broxton gave up four runs before he got an out. And then he couldn't get another one after that.

slava014 said...

TRADE NOMAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve Sax said...

Do you know how the 4+1 felt for the Padres?

You do, now.
