Game 54 Thread: June 1 @ Pirates, 4.05p

Dodgers start Randy Wolf, LHP (6-3, 3.41) vs. Zach Duke, LHP (2-5, 5.55).

Dodgers: 31-22 (T-1st place NL West (with SD and AZ), L1)
Pirates: 23-30 (2nd place NL Central, 6.5 GB, L2)

From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:

Dodgers: Wolf was on point Sunday afternoon, blanking the Cubs through six innings. The Dodgers, however, were unable to produce any runs to support him, leaving Wolf with a no-decision. Wolf allowed no runs, on three hits while striking out five in the quality start. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and walked only two batters in the outing. He is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in one start against the Pirates this season.

Pirates: The season-long struggles of Duke continue. Though he picked up a win in his past start, the Pittsburgh lefty lasted only five innings before fatigue set in. He is working with pitching coach Jim Colborn on changing the release point on his delivery, but even with the extra work, Duke is still losing the necessary angle on his pitches. If Duke is going to begin to regain his form, he will have to do it against a team he has struggled with in the past. In three appearances against the Dodgers, Duke is 1-2 with an 8.15 ERA.

From Inside the Dodgers, the lineup:

Still waiting on official word for a starting pitcher for tomorrow and an update on Brazoban.

Furcal, SS
Pierre, CF
Vote for Martin, C
Kent, 2B
Saenz, 1B (great history against Duke)
Gonzo, LF
Abreu, 3B
Ethier, RF
Wolf, P

I just watched Jason Phillips of Toronto get thrown out at second on a hit into the right field corner. Man, is that dude slow.

Wow. Great job Abreu!

Consecutive doubles by Gonzo and Abreu following a Saenz walk. 4-3 Dodgers.
