Post-Game 54 Thread: Walk-Offs Walked Over

BRAVES 4, DODGERS 3

No walk-off heroics this evening, as the Dodgers drop the first game of the four-game Braves series and fall to 2-8 against the NL East, since Kris Medlen and the Braves kept the Dodgers in check much more than the final score would have one believe. Kris Medlen lulled the Dodgers to sleep through seven, finally giving up 3 R and 2 ER in the eighth inning to make it appear, in the box score, like a close game.

But it wasn't. Lost in the euphoria of the last two walk-off victories, both in extra innings, was the fact that we did not score in 22 of our last 24 frames. Tonight, the impotent offense waited much too long to get started, led by Rafael Furcal (0-for-4 in the leadoff slot), Matt Kemp (0-for-3), Manny Ramirez (0-for-4), and, most notably, Russell Martin (0-for-4 with 3 Ks). Aside from seeing former Dodger Takashi Saito come in for the Braves in the ninth (Saito left with an injury with two out and an 0-2 count on Martin, who promptly struck out on Jonny Venters' one and only pitch thrown), there wasn't much to watch in this game. The Braves win their ninth in a row, and the Dodgers fall to 1.5 GB the idle Padres.

That Medlen kid didn't let us get away with it tonight, alas.

A lot of the hype for this game was built around "two surging teams colliding" but the Dodgers are far from surging. They can't get timely hits. The 8th was good tonight, though, so hopefully that means they're coming out of it.

What happens to the Laker t-shirt?

I don't think the *entire* offense will be down like this for extended periods. Would've enjoyed another walk off win. Tomorrow's game will be telling for how this home stand is going to go.

Now Chipper has camo and war paint on his face. Broxton is quite and cracks half a smile.

Dodgers lost...if only I had an Acapella group to sing "the lion sleeps" to ease the pain...

Paul said...

Didn't someone just cover that thing at the WH concert? I thought I heard snippet. It just won't go away!

not to pile on, but we didn't really score much in the first Az game either. The last three were gift runs and we scored only two "real" runs early in the game. I hope we get a little more patient and help out Clayton tonight

maybe this is the pessimistic Dodger fan in me (maybe I should just say "Dodger fan"), but it seems like when we have a game when our main division opponent has the day off, we lose. And when we are off and they have a game, they seem to win. We never seem to take advantage or get a break in these situations. I am sure if I did the research, it would probably be exactly even, but it doesn't seem like it
