World Series Game 5 Thread: NYY @ PHI, 5p

Johnny Damon stealing two bases in one play last night. An overshift for Mark Teixeira brought third baseman Pedro Feliz to second on Damon's first steal. Reliever Brad Lidge failed to cover third and Damon advanced easily for another steal.

Clifton Phifer Lee (1-0, 0.00) vs. Allan James Burnett (1-0, 1.29).

Brad Lidge is back...to being his old self. The Yankees are back...to the business of winning their 27th World Series. And baseball fans are back...to another interminable off-season. This could be the last baseball for a while, folks. Enjoy it while you can!

I'm surprised Jeter, P isn't batting 8th tonight.

To be fair, I confused Jeter 2B with Jeter RF, so that should be changed.

I think Jeter P has less Jeterness then all the other Jeters. Of course, Jeter SS has the most, which is why he is leading off.

Jeter at the plate!

Kyle Baker said...

Josh-

Is Jeter in for the injured Melky Cabrera tonight, or would Jeter be playing anyway?

Kyle Baker said...

No, Karina, the plate is AT Jeter.

Tomorrow's my dad's 60th birthday but tonight he looks like he's 6.

Would you disinherit me if i say "Go Yankees"? (just to see my father as giddy as schoolboy)

karina said...

Victorino HBP, but i really said "Crucio". Coincidence?

Kyle Baker said...

Is your dad back to being 60 now, Karina?

Jeter could have completed the DP is he was playing first.

@DB

lol, we need to elevate Jeter into Chuck Norris status.

"Derek Jeter can turn a triple play with the bases empty"

"When Derek Jeter is at the plate, its called a homicide squeeze."

"Derek Jeter once drove himself home on a sacrifice fly"

After that top of the 1st, I was thinking Game 5 Cliff Lee = Game 5 Vicente Padilla and the Phillies were toast. Then Game 5 AJ Burnett became Game 3 Hiroki Kuroda.

But in the end, they're all Derek Jeter.

@Dusty Baker he said "as Yogi Berra would put it, it ain't over 'till it's over"

He said "we'll wait to face their bullpen" and i said "let's see if Lee actually gives the bullpen some work".

His reply? "you'll see. They're the Yankees"

I feel proud of him!

Derek Jeter can get an RBI on a double play.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Either the umps hate Aybar, or they love Utley. I'd believe both.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

No more Shane. He's going into the dugout to nurse his bruised ego-er, uh, I mean hand. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Bad call, ump. Utley was out. Not because the throw beat him, but because Jeter was maning 2B.

Josh S. said...

After that play, MLB has changed the rules so all dropped throws to 2nd are outs.

When the Red Sox made their historic comeback in the 2004 Playoffs...Derek Jeter still got a World Series ring.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Oh yeah, this thing's going back to da Bronx. Burnett has nothing.

Kyle Baker said...

At least he threw at Victorino's hand, not his head.

Its amazing someone as "tough" as Victorina can also be such a whiney bitch. Maybe his constant "venting" (if you want to call it that) at the Dodgers calms him down enough to play through the pain of having a bruised hand.

Kings lead 1-0, Kopitar scores (assisted by Derek Jeter)

Part of me is rooting for Philly in this series. Im an NL guy at heart, I hate the Yankees, and at least we could say we were beat by the "best" (I guess), but having said that, I would laugh my ass off if the Derek Jeter 9 can comeback and win this so.......go Yanks (sorta)

Josh S. said...

RIP Victorino's puppet show career.

That was nice of Jeter to hit into a double play (a run-scoring one, natch!) so the New Jeter Jeters could celebrate their 27th Jeter in front of their jeters.

Man, this Cliff Lee fella...him good.

I just found something on the SoSG archives that will shock everyone to their foundation (I exaggerate for effect, but it's still pretty big). Remember that SoSG chain fiction thing we did back in the summer? Well, something tells me Orel and the gang had a little inside info on this whole McCourt McVorce:

One night Frank McCourt comes home earlier than expected from a business trip without notifying Jamie. He notices a strange car in the driveway, enters his home and thinks he hears a male voice upstairs in the bedroom. Growing increasingly worried (and angry), Frank runs upstairs and swings open the bedroom door to find...
