Appreciate This

From the LA Times' Letters section:

My 11-year-old son Jacob just told me what he wants for the holidays this year. He asked me for about 100 blank DVDs. "What in the world are you planning to do with them," I asked. "I want to record every televised game Vin Scully calls next season and keep them forever," he said.

Maybe there is hope for America's youth after all!

Wow. Nice to know some people are raising their kids right.

My son knows Vin as the "guy we hear in the bathroom" at Dodger Stadium.

That's a really cool idea. There's been plenty of times, especially in the off season, where I've thought to myself that it'd be nice to listen to Vin call an old game.

I've got Vin calling Game 1 of the '88 series on my iPod. That alone is enough of a reason to have an iPod.

Make this kid the next owner of the Dodgers.

I'm 23 years old, before I moved to LA last month I lived in central Califonria. Among my co-workers up there were three guys around my age, all huge baseball fans. One hated Vinny because he had an "annoying voice"; one hated him because he "knew nothing about baseball"; the third had never heard of him.

I tried to convince them they were wrong to no avail. Since they were unresponsive to my thoughtful dissent and Vin's brilliant eloquence, perhaps I should have tried a series of grunts and screeches to help my ignorant generation see the light.

PB, I bet they have Tim McCarver MP3s on their ipods (or cassettes for their walkmen)

MLASF, would that Game 1 recording be made available to the public at some point? *hint hint*

G1 of the 88 series:
"And look who's coming to bat!"

FB,
The Left Field Pavillion has the entire Gibson at bat on their website. I still get chills.

i found and recorded a clip last night starting with the walk to Davis (which still shocks me) through to Vin poking at Eck (after the minute+ of announcer-uninterrupted cheering).

I like that Vin will give the goat as much consideration (if not more) as the hero.

and I too still get chills 21 frikking years later, and the room will get a little dusty sometimes too...

Sorry, FB. I got it through iTunes, so you could get it if you want, but for a small fee of two dollars.

But isn't Vin worth it?

I sure hope that kid obtains the express written consent from the Dodgers and/or Major League Baseball!

What's wrong with getting a little dusty, FB?

Just saw this headline:

"Obama, Hu stress cooperation, differences"

Chin-lung Hu is REALLY campaigning to make the team on Opening Day, no?

DB - nothing at all, I am just worried about getting too dusty. Is that possible?

MLASF - found it on iTunes! I'll be picking that up!
OZ - search for Dodgers in the iTunes store and it will be somewhere in the results list
