Post-Game 8 Thread: And A Kendrick Walkoff Tonight Makes Two In A Row

"And A Kendrick", get it? (gratuitous boob shot)

DODGERS 6, MARINERS 5

This time, it didn't take extras. But the storyline was the same as last night (not to mention an identical final score): new Dodgers pitcher gives up early HRs, including to Nelson Cruz (1-for-3, with HRs in four straight games); and Alex Guerrero has a big hit to start the comeback (two-run PH HR in the fourth to make it 4-3 Seattle).

But the hero tonight was Howie Kendrick, whose one-out bases-loaded single scored Jimmy Rollins from third, with Carl Crawford beating the throw from rightfielder (and I use that loosely, since he should be a DH) Cruz, to win the game in walkoff fashion (Kendrick's sixth career walkoff and first with the Dodgers).

Andre Ethier had a key solo HR in the sixth. Yasmani Grandal was a horrible 0-for-3 including a rally-killing, inning-ending GIDP in the seventh; Juan Uribe was 0-for-4 and, like Grandal, is batting .176 on the year.

David Huff tried to pull a Brandon McCarthy impression, giving up two first-inning HR and inflating his ERA to a ridiculous 9.00 (4.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 1 BB and 2 Ks). Yimi Garcia got yet another win.

Is this the type of scrappy Dodgers team that can come from behind, which we certainly hadn't seen in recent years? Possibly, according to Kendrick:

"It's just about building character in guys, and I think this says a lot about the character of the guys in here," Kendrick said. "The past couple of days we've had wins like this, coming from behind. And I think once you start doing that, guys realize that you really can't give up on the game -- especially early -- because you've still got a lot of the game left.

"So even if we give up some runs early in the game, we still can inch our way back later. And the more we do come back and keep having the games that we've had, you get that confidence, and then it continues to overflow."

Keep it coming, boys! 1.0 GB Colorado for the NL West lead; and owners of a WC slot with only 154 left to play.
