Game 62 Thread: June 7 @ Phils, 4p

Rubby De La Rosa (1-0, 1.80) vs. Roy Oswalt (3-3, 2.70).

Welcome to the 2011 Dodgers v5.0, where De La Rosa is a starter and Dee Gordon is the everyday shortstop. I don't want to say the Dodgers are throwing in the towel here, but nobody envisioned this patchwork quilt of injured aging farts and callow neophytes. The Dodgers' chances at post-season play this year? Rancid.

I'm staying positive, of course I'm prone to abusive relationships...

Josh S. said...

Just you wait, Orel. They'll be selling flat-top wigs by July.

(Just to make payroll.)

Pride of Dong said...

Just like my Mannt Dreads, I'd buy some "spaced farther apart" sun glasses for Jamey Carroll. (The more I abuse him, the better he does!)

Momentary break during the seconds busiest day of the year at work...

Gordon - SS
Blake - 3B
Ethier - RF
Kemp - CF
Uribe - 2B
Loney - 1B
Navarro - C
Sands - LF
De La Rosa - P

Urine of Ackbar at second, huh?

Jason said...

^ second busiest day. Though the first, the day after Christmas, is generally more fun. And eggnog-ey.

MR.F said...

Ackbar is having the day off?

Josh S. said...

If you have to throw those guys out there, why not something like:

Gordon - SS
Loney - 1B
Ethier - RF
Kemp - CF
Blake - 3B
Sands - LF
Uribe - 2B
Navarro - C
De La Rosa - P

Nostradamus said...

Well, shit. It didn't take long for the youth movement to get underway, did it?

MR.F said...

Why is there no youth movement at first base?

(cries)

Josh S. said...

There is, Mr. Smonkowner. But when Jerry Sands was brought up, Loney started hitting (modestly) better, so that plan was scrapped for now.

Josh S. said...

^At least, the plan I imagined was happening. They never specifically mentioned him as a replacement for Loney, but they had to be thinking it considering how awful James was at the time.

Steve Sax said...

Orel, if you think this lineup is bad, wait until you see our patchwork quilt of injured aging neophytes and callow young farts.

Josh S. said...

Not nearly as bad as tallow farts.

Nostradamus said...

As if "lard ass" didn't already have enough negative connotations.

Jason said...

Pioneering Beering. I don't even know where to start with this one.

Fred's Brim said...

he looks like a little boy!
Go Dee!

Fred's Brim said...

attaboy Dee!!
get that ball!

Josh S. said...

Good start!

Jason said...

DEE GORDON IS THE FUTURE OF THIS ORGANIZATION!

Fred's Brim said...

cmon, Casey! Give him a pitch to steal on!

Jason said...

Casey Blake is the past of this organization.

Josh S. said...

STOOPID BEARD.

Josh S. said...

I thought Dee could teleport. How could he get doubled up?

Fred's Brim said...

Go Rubby!

Fred's Brim said...

the Cliff Lee strikezone is not in effect tonight

Fred's Brim said...

fast fastball

Jason said...

I don't think Carroll would have been able to pull off the 1-4-5 FC. So, good on Mattingly for the time being for tonight's lineup.

Fred's Brim said...

Wilson Valdez, the lost member of Tony! Toni! Tone! Toney!

Josh S. said...

Strikes would be advantageous.

Josh S. said...

Yay! No runs!

Everybody take a breath.

Jason said...

Is that half of a Bisonic Boom?

Josh S. said...

Bisonic Bo!

Jason said...

A Loney unintentional-IBB

Josh S. said...

In play (runs)???

Jason said...

Dinner!

Josh S. said...

Dumn you Jurry Sunds!

I was just about to complain about Navarro hitting before Sands. Oh well.

Jason said...

JIDP

Fred's Brim said...

get mad, Rubby

Fred's Brim said...

Demonic Brown

Josh S. said...

He's not nervous, my patoot!

Jason said...

I hope the bullpen is well rested.

Jason said...

Avatar change. 'Dre approves of de la Rosa's first K.

Fred's Brim said...

nice play, Rubby - way to stay with that

Jason said...

Nice defense, Rubby.

Fred's Brim said...

balls

Fred's Brim said...

sweaty balls

Nostradamus said...

Fuck. that's not good.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

We'll get 'em tomorr-

(cries)

Orel said...

This is ugly.

Nostradamus said...

At least there's that, though.

Jason said...

Rubby seemed to have no idea what to do there after ball 4.

Fred's Brim said...

attaboy Dee!
How did Rubby not get thrown out?

Jason said...

Dee!

Rubby!

Youth movement!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Rubby run!

Fred's Brim said...

Casey!

Jason said...

Old movement!

Fred's Brim said...

haha Dee is so fast

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Nice work there, Roy!

Jason said...

Double steal?

Fred's Brim said...

get him home, Dre

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Dre got him home.

Fred's Brim said...

there you go!
4 runs?

MR.F said...

Runs!

Orel said...

4-1 Dodgers. I am so confused.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

And I thought our fielding was suspect.

Fred's Brim said...

@Jason, no just a bad throw to first that Dee could have scored on running backwards

Fred's Brim said...

take it easy, Urine

Jason said...

Ahahahahahahahaha!

Keystone Kops this inning.

Fred's Brim said...

Has Urine always had that stance? It looks like he not putting his weight on either foot

Fred's Brim said...

slap one somewhere, James. we're gonna need more runs

MR.F said...

Come on Loney, don't suck!

MR.F said...

....and Loney sucked.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Loney, you suck.

Josh S. said...

Collins and Lyons on the radio???

Fred's Brim said...

I just watched the rebroadcast of the game last night to see if the Phillies announcer really called Fernando a "brownie" as Central Valley Fan reported last night. And there it is, the first part of the bottom of the 7th, play-by-play guy Tom McCarthy sho-nuff says it:
McCarthy: "Wheels, can you name the first pitcher in MLB history to win the Cy Young and the rookie of the year in the same season?"
Color man Chris "Wheels" Wheeler: "Fernando Valenzuela"
McCarthy: "I knew it was a brownie...."

Fred's Brim said...

nice throw, Dre!
great, old-man running by Ibanez

Jason said...

Out by 10 feet.

Jason said...

Icing on top: Oswalt leads off the 4th.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

@FB - Nobody's picked up on this yet? Is it not as offensive as I think it is?

Fred's Brim said...

Rubby's a little more aggressive this time up

Fred's Brim said...

@MLASC, the only ones who watch the Phillie broadcast, shitstank Philly fans, probably don't find it offensive

Fred's Brim said...

the kid can fly!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Jesus Christ, Dee Gordon is fast.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Jesus Christ, Dee Gordon is fast.

AGAIN.

Fred's Brim said...

that was almost close!
thanks for taking a pitch, Casey

Fred's Brim said...

Somewhere, Bill James just shuddered

Jason said...

Better Dodger rookie debut: Sands or Gordon. Discuss.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

That bunt really paid dividends.

Fred's Brim said...

Dee should have been going on that grounder

Orel said...

FB, are you serious? I tried checking it on MLB.TV and the bottom of the inning starts conveniently right after that conversation.

Fred's Brim said...

@Orel go to the bottom of the 7th and then use the << controls on the left to rewind 30 or 60 seconds.

Fred's Brim said...

Why did we bunt and not just send Dee to third?

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

100?

Orel said...

Wow, that's getting transcribed!

Fred's Brim said...

Did anybody see how Dinner had to throw it around the horn after that K? Because of the shift, Casey was at short so Dinner threw it over Rubby

Fred's Brim said...

@Orel

McCarthy: "Wheels, can you name the first pitcher in MLB history to win the Cy Young and the rookie of the year in the same season?"
Chris "Wheels" Wheeler: "Fernando Valenzuela"
McCarthy: "I knew it was a brownie..."

Fred's Brim said...

Urine!

Fred's Brim said...

Hawksworth up again? Does Donnie want to injure him again?

Fred's Brim said...

lay off the high fastballs, DN

Fred's Brim said...

pathetic
2 innings in a row with a guy at third and less than 2 outs and we can't get him home

Fred's Brim said...

I am waiting for Jerry to ground out

Fred's Brim said...

and there it is

I don't like this. 3-run lead, 4 innings of our bullpen. This can't end well

Fred's Brim said...

nice work, Hawx

Fred's Brim said...

good to see Thames get some good wood

Fred's Brim said...

The Philly announcer just said that Juan Pierre was a little bulkier than Dee. What else is Juan Pierre bulkier than? Kate Moss? Anthony Weiner's political career?

Fred's Brim said...

Bill James has dropped Casey in his rankings at least 10 spots based on tonight

Fred's Brim said...

This Comcast/Kabletown broadcast has a sneaky sound effect when they come back from commercial. When it switches from the Comcast logo to the line score graphic, they add a subtle sound effect of a ball being hit and a crowd cheering. It's made me look up several times this game thinking something had happened

Fred's Brim said...

Dumb walks have taken days off my life

Fred's Brim said...

Dodgers can't turn two: kinda speedy Polanco coupled with a slow throw from Urine to Dee

Fred's Brim said...

oops that wasnt Polanco, he's hitting now

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Does Steve Lyons watch baseball? Ethier is far from a gold glover.

Fred's Brim said...

Polanco flies out to Dre, 2 outs

Fred's Brim said...

Scotty coming in to face Howard

Fred's Brim said...

oops I meant Utley
run-scoring triple for Utz

Fred's Brim said...

get him out, Scotty!

Fred's Brim said...

Uribe in the shift catches a sure hit and we go to the eighth

Fred's Brim said...

Matty gets 2 runs back!!!
Bison Power!

Josh S. said...

Hello again friends.

I enjoy this Matt Kemp person.

Fred's Brim said...

howdy Josh - I share your enjoyment

Fred's Brim said...

nice inning, Scotty!

Steve Sax said...

Dammit why wasn't Ethier playing yesterday when I had money on the game

Fred's Brim said...

that guy hates Koehler apparently

Fred's Brim said...

Jerry's gonna start hitting at some point. He seems to have good at bats but isn't making good contact. It might be worth giving him a couple of weeks down at ABQ to get the feeling again

Fred's Brim said...

Tony Gwynn is our best bet off the bench

Fred's Brim said...

hmm Gwynn looked safe on my only view of it but the replay may show that Valdez blocked the base

Fred's Brim said...

and he did. why don't more players do that? afraid of getting spiked?

Fred's Brim said...

Javy Guerra in to close it out

Fred's Brim said...

can we keep them to 3 runs or less?

Fred's Brim said...

gold-glove outfielder Andre Ethier gets out number 2

Fred's Brim said...

that's the ballgame

make party time!

Fred's Brim said...

congrats Rubby and Dee on great games!

Jason said...

Making E3 party!
