"The Science of Baseball" at the Exploratorium

For those of you planning to visit the Bay Area, might I point out the Exploratorium in San Francisco has a self-guided exhibition called "The Science of Baseball", which runs through September 6, 2010.

You may have missed the Mark DeRosa event on May 14 (yawn!), but Exploratorium visitors can still pick up a free program (you can't tell the players without a program, right?) which details a number of exhibits ranging from the physics to the psychology of the game. The program itself has mini-articles on the elasticity of baseballs during collisions, finding the sweet spot of a bat, and the aerodynamics of baseball, among others.

The exhibition is a worthwhile diversion for a couple of hours, and the Exploratorium deserves a lot of credit for interspersing baseball-themed exhibits among the regular museum displays. Check it out.
