Balking on Sunshine

Casey Blake brings in the game-winning run last night after juking Esmerling Vasquez into a balk.

UPDATE 11:27a (SoSG Sax): Bonus points to Jon Weisman for the Perfect Strangers pun.

I so wouldn't say it myself but loved the line someone had in the GT last night about how maybe GA would get in the celebration and break his leg.

I think people are getting too caught up in all of this balk nonsense. I just don't think it's a big deal, especially considering that Casey's beard was going to steal home on the next pitch anyway

Ninth inning last night:

Me: "Oh shit. GA is on deck."
Bro-in-law: "Man, if only this were 5 years ago. This game would be in the bag."

The Beard does not steal, it liberates.

So James Loney's baserunning blunder (inexplicably trying to take third with none out, and getting him tagged out in the process) is forgotten thanks to Casey's winning run. After Loney got nailed, it looked like he went straight into the tunnel to hang his head...understandably, but still...

Then Blake scores, the team comes out to celebrate...did anyone notice Loney as part of that celebration? I didn't see him. FJL should have been the first guy out there...

I didn't see it, but I thought I heard Vin say how big a smile Loney had on his face.

Loney emerged from the clubhouse after the initial rush. The camera caught him laughing with Kemp in the dugout after everybody left the field.

Cool cool, thanks you guys. I didn't see Loney, and it was really bumming me out to think that he wasn't there. Thanks for correcting me. If I were Loney, I would have carried Blake into the locker room myself.

I need to go to more Chad starts. Last night was only the second time I've seen him start in person and he struck out 11. The first time (July 13. 2008), he struck out 13.

Yep. ALL ME.

Ha ha! Oops. I forgot Bills pitched on ESB Night. And he only had 5 Ks.

Never mind then.
